Now you can see how the royal saga began. Shovel Knight: King of Cards tells us the prequel story of King Knight, as he travels through his realms in search of an adventure. Apart from new platform challenges, the game introduces a card game called Joustus. It enables the player to engage in multiple card battles and collect his own deck as the game progresses.

King of Cards is a standalone adventure that is also included in Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Its owners will receive King of Cards as a FREE update to their game.

Pyromancer138: Yes, but you know what? We are talking about the PC version, so my opinion about that is quite simple.

If Steam has achievements GOG should also have them.
Achievements were implemented to entice customers to chain themselves to a DRM system. If you want achievements shop at the original. You get the DRM hoops free of charge on top.

Not really. The main purpose is to monitor the players progress. How many players have found achievement X, how many have completed the game, found teh secret level etc. etc. A side benefit is, that players (some at least) are more engaged with the game to get all achievements. "gotta catch'em all"

Buyers are chained to DRM simply by a game not launching without it. ;-)

Leaving aside that some of us don't particularly appreciate gaming companies tracking our playthroughs, how do you think a system of EXTERNAL achievements works? It has to connect online either to a company server or to a client, in order to register the achievement. People getting hooked on the achievements ultimately equals people getting hooked on the company server and/or client. They won't want to migrate to a different place, because then they wouldn't be able to keep/keep building their achievements. What you say about players getting engaged in the game is not them being engaged in the game. Rather, it is those players being engaged with the proprietary system (/server/client).
