I know that the game isn't on GOG, but I respect this communities opinion far more than Steam's. Just about everyone says that Arkham Asylum is a brilliant game, but I'm not a usually an action game fan. It's currently on offer (GOTY) on Steam at quite a discount, so I'm wondering if it's something that I would be able to get into, or if it's only accessibie to fans of the genre.

Obviously there's no definitive answer, but I would be interested to hear people's views on the game.
It's good. Really good combat. I'd say pick it up.

My problem is there's little to no replay value after completing the game.
It was too hard for me personally, but I play video games on easy, so most "Real Gamers" don't care what I have to say. hah!

I'll probably get it at some point, since I really like the style and the franchise, but it isn't at the top of my list.

And i think the PC version has some type of DRM thingy.

Do you like Metroid/Castlevania (of the Metroidvania school :p) style games? If so, you'll love AA.

There is combat and a few fun boss battles, but it is largely about exploring and collecting crap while fighting occasional mooks.
YES.

It is SUPERB. But you do need a pretty good rig to run it... Also, Arkham CITY is coming out soon, can't freaking wait!!!!

Games for Win DRM unfortunately. you need an account to play the game

and yes
get it

game is amazing. replay value... not that much. i finished it few hours into this year and i don't plan to replay the game till maybe may june next year.

nevertheless the game rox so there is NO reason to not get it.
Like Gundato says, it's not totally combat driven. When you're fighting a group of thugs you're fighting them as Batman. So they're not that difficult. The boss battles pose a bit more of a challenge. You've got to pay attention to their routines and hit them when they're weak. If you can do that then you're laughing.

It's that bloody electric lock breaker I could never quite get the hang of...
Maybe I'm a unique case, but I felt compelled to beat the game a few times. I'm thinking about going through it again soon.
The game is actually very old school. The random thugs are really no challenge at all while all the bosses have patterns to their attacks you just have to learn. The game is superb, buy it.
It's okay. Once you beat it all you want to do is trade it back in or uninstall it. It gets old.
Well worth buying at the current price. Like others, I found this one of few games that I've completed more than once.

Oh, and I generally can't stand the Batman franchise, but this game was brilliant despite that.

It's a good game. Personally, I got the GOTY edition which was in 3D. I did that mostly out of curiosity, the effect is subtle, but kind of intriguing, they didn't go out of their way to bang one over the head with it. Most of the time I had a hard time telling whether or not it was on.

I tend not to finish games, but I had no problem finishing it and completing pretty much everything.
I have heard the Steam version has a monthly install limit imposed by Securom while the retailed box version has only imposes a single-time online check. However I can't find a better price than Steam's, actually, I am having a hard time finding a PC version of Arkham Asylkum PC at all (most are for consoles). I'm still debating on which to get.
Yes, you should by it.

It's less of an action game and more of a thinking puzzle game. Most of the game has you trying to find a way to get from one place to another. Since you're Batman, you spend a lot of time sneaking around guards, climbing in air ducts, that sort of thing.

When you get to a group of armed thugs, you don't just fight them straight out. This too is a puzzle. You have to sneak around, taking them out one by one while the poor thugs increasingly go mad with fright. It makes you feel like Batman.

In between, there are some straight out fights against thugs. These tend to be rather simple. You're Batman, after all.

You also have hundreds, yet hundreds, of optional exploration type puzzles to find, courtesy of the Riddler.
