ShaolinsKunk: All games are Role-Playing Games :P

ShaolinsKunk: Reminds me of that Starcraft Ghost game that got scrapped, real shame, this was at a time when I actually respected Blizzard. Oh well, sunrise sunset.
Scary! I was JUST thinking about that when I saw this topic; making a game out of the "raid" missions in SC. Alas no, we get DNR out of our asses. I know Blizzard has it's reason but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

tinyE: *snip*
I really wish I still had the Game Informer that had Ghost on the cover, that issue really got me hyped up for a badass FPS from my favorite developer at the time. Take the role of a Sci-fi ninja who can call in tactical nukes? Yes, please.

Alas.....

F1ach: LOL I was going to suggest that too, blast from the past :)

triock: I still have a hard copy, but it's not a RPG IMHO.
Still have the original too, I never really liked it iirc.

Shinook: As I understand it, Blizzard North had a tech demo for a Diablo 2 "clone" that was set in a sci fi environment. I remember reading something about it a few months ago, it obviously never saw the light of day, but looked awesome.
What was the name of it? Starblo? :)

Played it only once, but I liked it, it's a good game, not great, but still okay.
Darkspore?

Cool, I'll dig it out and give it another shot :)
Restricted Area. Its the only other diablo like sci fi rpg I can think of other then Darkspore that has already been mentioned. Its a little rough and even more repetative then is usual for these style games. It does feature a random loot system, random quests as well as a main quest line. There are 4 characher classes to pick from, ranging from a deus ex type agent that uses guns and bio mod upgrades to a katana wielding yakuza style character.

Warning though it uses starforce drm, which in itself is reason enough not to play it. Which also makes this a bit of a crap recommendation but like I said I really can't think of any others.

No it doesn't, it's DRM-free on GG :

GREED: Black Border?

Restricted Area looks cool man! Thanks to Ralackk for mentioning it and Licurg for assuring us it wasn't loaded with Starshit.
In order what i see here i would recommend:

Harbinger: probably the best but good luck running it on modern hardware(i heard it has alot of issues, but correct me if i'm wrong)

Space Siege: decent but overly simplyfied it is fun though if you can get past of it's simplicity (if you loved diablo 3 you will probably like this)

Restricted are: interesting game, a bit clunky but very interesting. The setting and atmospere is the most unique of all metioned in this post but it also take the most effort to get used to.

Greed: only buy if for some reason all of the above doesn't work for you: it's too simple, too short, incomplete,...It works but it's like a small snack or something to keep you busy while a better game is downloading or coming in the mail

tinyE: This is a HUUUUUUUGE stretch but you might consider ZAX. You are an alien baddass shipwrecked on a nasty planet forced to basically dungeon hack your way through quests in order to fix your ship. A few cool things: a synthisizer (spell) that makes weapons and stuff for you and an interesting mouse control scheme similar to Abuse. Bad things: like any dungeon crawler it can get boring and the graphics while not horrid are not going to have you shitting your pants.

Here is a link.

Never heard of this one but it looks really interesting (anybody know if there is a way to get it digitally?)

Drox Operative is a GREAT sci-fi diablo-like. Heavily recommended.

ZAX!

I miss that game so much. I tried to get it to work on my Vista computer and it did not cooperate very well.

Too bad we won't get a GOG release.

Harbinger was great too, though I feel like a lot of people around here hated it?
I tried reinstalling Zax a few months ago and it looked terrible. I know exactly squat about tweeking games so I wouldn't let that deter anyone from giving it a shot. It's about 10 USD on Amazon before shipping which I personally feel is a bit much even though I love the game. The only way I can see to download it is illegally and while I'm not here to pass judgement on anyone, I refuse to pirate, unless I'm playing Port Royale but then that's part of the game.
