Long story short (okay, short story short), the fact that gog.com establishes decency boundaries on its forum is the reason why I just bought Steamworld Heist (amongst others, in a spectacular little shopping spree) and DAMN that game is AWESOME.

So yeah, just wanted to say.

Steamworld Heist is awesome.
Is that ban IP based? Is something in place to curtail the alt accounts problem?

Otherwise, what does banning anyone actually accomplish?

And I kind of would like my rep fixed, that was ruined by all the alt account scammers.

4Chan's /v/ may be preferable to you - no censorship there afaik (plenty of shitposting though, admittedly).

There are various other stores that sell DRM-free mixed in with Steam keys, or you could always just see what Steam games are DRM-free.

Not IP based bans can accomplish a whole lot. They accomplish that xenophobic hate mongers don't get to settle in and find a cozy place for staying and spreading their toxic waste. They don't get to be permanent characters in the forum theatre cast. They don't get to be part of the community. And in my experience, that's actually what they're here for.

IP based bans are definitely a more effective tool... to handle mere "trolls". Then again, an IP ban is so easily circumvented. Trolls will find a way back in. But that's a whole different problem complex.

Also IP bans can affect innocent people. Most ISPs don't give a static IP but a dynamic one so the IP ban might affect lots of innocent people.

fables22: We've had forum rules on GOG for a long time - if you need to refresh your memory, they're here: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/212182929-What-are-the-house-rules-Code-of-Conduct-for-posting-on-the-website. These rules will possibly be undergoing some change in the near future, however, they are solid as they stand as of now, so please do follow them. If you have any questions or need any clarification, please let me know.

Tyrrhia: I’m fine with strict rules if they are enacted fairly, i.e. for everybody. If you go the route of Twitter and Reddit (deleting exact same content depending on their author’s beliefs and on which group it targets), however, that will be the end.

adaliabooks: I've seen nothing to believe you will be anything but fair.
avatar
Tyrrhia: I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

fables22: Thanks! I'm amazed that so far the feedback has been broadly positive, at least in terms of what's said publicly. I appreciate that some of you actually express your appreciation of having some moderation on here, unlike the other camp :)

Tyrrhia: What do you mean by “the other camp”?
Ah, just the people threatening me over PMs. You know. The usual.
