Nah, it was some sort of exclusivity agreement. MS ended up owning the Halo IP as part of it but Bungie is free to do other projects now, but they had to work on several projects for MS first (just like Pixar is free of their original agreement with Disney, unless they've signed a new one they no longer have to release stuff with Disney, so far they've chosen to, though).
