Gudadantza: The My Rewards content for Cyberpunk are clearly stated as Galaxy rewards. It is technically possible probably add hem in offline installerd but then the "Galaxy rewards" would not have sense.
avatar
mqstout: Attempting semantics like that doesn't mean that they're not DRMed content and shouldn't be fixed/removed.

They could still be done "DRM-free once purchased" if they were able to be added to cart and "purchased for free" via Galaxy, and then they'd become like any other DLC post-acquisition with an offline installer.
I do not see it like semantics. They did choose to offer them as a "gift" (or a nighmare) for Galaxy users.

If someone is really interestd in those weird skins or content the solution is easy. Install Galaxy, add the content/gift, unninstall Galaxy. The content should be still available until an uninstallation,

People is doing simlar things if a free game is offered by GOG and you need to be registered in the boletin. Register, add the game to your account, then unregister.

The rest is just dogmatism or obstinacy. The content in Cyberpunk is not so important to make a drama about it. Nothing to do with the Hitman situation

rjbuffchix: We couldn't be so lucky, lol. As I have said in other topics, it would make more sense for games that have online requirements, client requirements etc that gate content to be on a different platform or website. In Cyberpunk's case though, I feel it could easily be fixed to just have offline installers for the cosmetic "My Rewards" content. I'm not some technical wizard...but other games have such content available this way just fine.

Sure. And why again do we (supposedly) need online-gated content in games here in the first place? Would Galaxy rewards be needed to set up the Rewards for further use in a future Cyberpunk multiplayer mode where "naturally, there will be microtransactions" (or whatever the quote was)?

Someone like me who comes here for DRM-free offline gaming is not enthused about any of that and it is actually a major turnoff to buying on this store, same as Hitman currently is. Like if you say, "You have to understand, the game is designed to be a live service...". It's like, uh, ok? That sucks and isn't what I want to buy, lol.

I remember when Google used to say "Don't be evil," until they decided to abandon that philosophy.

I honestly hope GOG doesn't go down that route...

So then this hitman debacle should not exist. GOG clearly state it’s only for people who sign up to IO services, so it’s all good? Amount of content or type is irrelevant, game content is locked behind online gating and no “it’s a gift” is going to change that. Simply treating customers who don’t want an “optional” client on their machine as second class citizens to pressure them into installing it.

It's exactly that constant obsession by GOG of continuing to place as many artificial divisions and barriers between GOG Galaxy users and offline installer users as possible, that just irritates people even more and turns people away from the store rather than "encourage" offline installer users to use Galaxy. We are all paying the same money for (supposedly) the same content (unless of course, GOG want to start issuing partial refunds to offline installer users for the incomplete products they insist on offering...)

Well then so in that regard you have a very thin skin. Personally I believe that is take things too far. But It is you. Each one for their own

In Hitman the problem is that the offline single player content is affected. (Or at least a great bunch of the replayability and progression) Not comparable.

Not really; I am quite secure in my requirement that I want to (effectively) own what I buy. I simply know what I want and it is hard to find anywhere that serves my need.

As I have said in other topics, without GOG, DRM-free gaming would practically be on a death knell. That is why I, and I suspect others too, are so passionate about what we want, and about not wanting any DRM or online-creep in our games. The Hitman release at least at the moment is thus completely unsatisfactory on multiple levels.

If you (not you personally, anyone) don't care that much about some content being locked away, or having what are imo defective design choices, then you have any number of places to shop. Someone like me has basically this site, and a promising up-and-coming alternative, and to buy directly from a developer here or there.

No. It's calling a duck (DRM) a duck (DRM). And the check happens WITHIN CP2077 itself, not just Galaxy [though Galaxy is also required]. And your method does not work for preservation or isolated installations and in other situations.

AKA, it's exactly responses like yours ("I'm OK with DRM!") that enabled them to progress to crap like Hitman.

Is zero tolerance dogmatic? Yes. But it's an extremely important dogma.

CP2077's rewards are also offline single player content being hidden behind online DRM. There's no meaningful way to draw a distinction. And no, don't just say "it's just cosmetics!". Cosmetics are entirely part and parcel to gaming.

It is exactly the same, quantity has no bearing here. Either it is not appropriate, or it is. Simple. Cyberpunk is outside the users control having online gated content, so is hitman. If you are fine with one you have no comment on the other. Maybe my replay ability is to have a different costume to play through with.

It is not about quantiy, it is about the nature of the content, affecting the single player experience. Not comparable.

The CP2077 DLC was a crack in the DRM-dam. Hitman is nothing but a breach.

Gog have pointed out, and it’s always the excuse for any online gated content, that the single player experience can be played through fully on hitman as well. All that’s different is the bits from cyberpunk don’t bother you, whereas in hitman it does affect you. It is exactly the same issue.

Totally agree. This needs to be cut at the root. Not just because of bad business practices but to keep at least one good option on market as well as game preservation. Will it succeed? I don't know, I have some doubts. But it's sure the best thing for us to do at the moment. That and not letting it be forgotten. Only DRM-free principle should be this store goal. No exceptions.

The peculiar design of the Hitman title where the online/offline content is so tied, makes that this time the differentiation between multiplayer or pure single campaign is not valid and the classic solution is not enough. To have a proper offline content game, and a proper single campaign further measures should need to be made.

It is not the same issue at all. Not comparable.

And yes. I already know you do not agree. You will never be.
