Klumpen0815: Next bug:
The save-state always gets deleted after floor 2.
It doesn't matter if I manually say "save & quit" or if it crashes at some point when playing the third floor, I always have to start from scratch without even having been killed. Ò.Ó

Ganni1987: Haven't tried the other PC yet regarding the crashes, was at bday party. As for the save games I saved way too many times last night at lvl3+ and have always been able to resume my save points.

TBH I kinda cheated a bit with the savegame, I backed up the save folder and restored it in case I die at floor 4/5. I've done it about 6 times without issues. I really don't know what to tell you in that regard.
Haha, most people seem to do this with survival games.
If you know a mod/config/script that deactivates the deletion of the save (like "compromising survival" for "Don't Starve"), many people here would be thankful. I want hardcore survival to be optional and so do many others as well + it would solve my problem up to a degree (not the crashes though).

Never tried personally but most likely Don't Starve works in the same way. A simple script that automatically copies the savegame folder and restores it should you die is easy to make. If you want one, I could try making it in my free time :-)

Such a script for Ziggurat would be awesome.
I don't know if it's possible with Risk of Rain, can't remember if it had saves at all.

Yes, Don't Starve just deletes the savegame when you die as well and people made back-ups and restored them themselves until there were mods for this.
"Compromising Survival" is a bit more, it gives you the possibility to choose between "load last save", "resurrect and leave gear at corpse" or "die", I highly recommend this mod if you ever play it.
I'd hold off on buying it until they get the gamma problem solved. I can't play as the only things I can see are the brightest highlights which are themselves basically medium brightness. Unfortunately, there's no way of adjusting the gamma in game and doing it outside of the game would make everything else too bright.

I'll have to dig into this, I wonder if it has something to do with my monitor profile.
For what it's worth, I could save/quit and resume the game with no problems at level 3 and beyond. In fact, I've beaten the game in my first run on Easy difficulty. Soooo much easier. :D

I'll get an SSD then, tear out my faulty hard disc drive and smash it with a hammer...

Hope that solves your woes! Either your hard drive is fucking with you or you're really unlucky.

BTW, I accidentally discovered a mini-cheat: if you don't like the random weapon you get at the beginning of a level, just save/quit and resume the game. You'll be offered a new one. ^_^

Vitek: Each of floors 1-4 have 3 possible different bosses to randomly choose from and then there is 1 final boss on Floor 5.
avatar
Leroux: Ah, ok. Then I guess I just got unlucky to get the same boss three times in a row.

avatar
takezodunmer2005: So, it's basically, clear-room-collect-loot-clear-room-collect-loot-die-start new game-clear-room-collect-loot?
avatar
Leroux: One could describe it like that, yes. There are a few different types of rooms that you will find on every level: combat arenas in which you have to fight off all minions to move on, one boss arena that leads to the next level if you survive it, one room with a key to the boss arena in it that you have to find first (no minions here), one room with a new item (no minions here) and one room with traps (no minions, I think). I haven't found out yet what the latter is about, you can safely ignore it unless you need to navigate through it to get somewhere else, but maybe there is some kind of reward waiting at the end of it? Or maybe it's just there to make your passage more difficult and loses its function if there are no other exits from it apart from the one through which you enter?

In any case repetition is a major part in rogue-likes, and this game is no exception there, and from my impression it's also not the most varied rogue-like, so it's probably not for you.
I saw the Lets Play video, and it looks fun-as-hell, I will tolerate the repetition if it leads to my efforts being rewarded, that is, if I don't lose all progress (Items etc) due to a random anomaly out of my control, wasting hours of play-time and effort to acquire.

I guess that's why I'm put-off from rogue-typical games as I cannot stand wasted effort...

Thanks for the useful feedback, it's great to see in a gaming forum particularly when one's opinions differ!<--(This is yet another reason I love gog!)
Anyone else encounter the bug where the game freezes for a second when it spawns enemies?

Hey, better still, how about a script that saves during those irritating autosaves, like with Fear 2 and Bioshock inf? It really breaks immersion having to alt-tab to bak-a-save-folder at every auto-checkpoint!

I've encountered that too, but I don't think it's necessarily a "bug." It's just the computer loading up the random enemies.

But a bug I have encountered a lot is the save file bug for Windows. Have you see this bug too?

Well the game runs at a steady 60+ FPS and is fairly simple, it shouldn't do that.
It's annoying.
I haven't died, but is it always supposed to delete the game or is there a hardcore mode?
If it's always supposed to do it I can check it easily.

After the player dies, the save file is supposed to be deleted, like in Eldritch. But for some reason in the Windows version, the save file remains and the "Resume Game" option in the main menu still uses it--which it shouldn't.
avatar
Smannesman: snip
Maybe it isn't doing that with SSD and fast RAM, I don't know your system specs of course.

No, this is not supposed to happen but I encountered this bug thrice already and it's really a no-go in a game like this.
The save file is only supposed to be deleted when you died.

I knew, that Milkstone studios is shoving out games en masse and has some problems with proper support but I have hoped, that they changed their habits. Hopefully this gets fixed...

I'm not going to post my specs, suffice it to say they are sufficient to run newer games like Dead Rising 3 and GTAV without too much trouble. Moving the game to my SSD does indeed seem to remove the freeze/lag so apparently it's not a bug but just shitty programming.

The resume option is available after death, but it does reset me to the first floor so it's basically like New Game but without the character select I think.
