The art of daydreaming.

What Remains of Edith Finch is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% discount until December 11, 2PM UTC. The game will then be 20% off until December 26.
A certain boy prince might have you believe that "what is essential is invisible to the eye". But once you get absorbed into the enchanting world of Edith Finch, this notion might be severely challenged. A narrative masterpiece bursting with creativity, emotional resonance, and stunning visuals, this is an adventure game that will stay with you long after you leave the wondrous Finch house behind.

MarkoH01: On topic: The game is called out here as being a "walking sim". Much to my surprise many people also said that Ethan Carter would be a walking sim (which is not my opinion since there's actual gameplay and even some puzzle solving in it). So my question is: has the game actual gameplay in it (find the way, solve puzzles, collect items ect.) or is it really JUST walking around and looking at things to experience narrative like "Dear Esther"? Is this a purely narrative driven game or does it offer a bit more than just narration?
It's a narrative game in that it's not challenging and makes you learn a set story rather than affect and advance it, but the story is told through game mechanics, not passively/cinematically - each part is a surreal minigame in which you play a Finch, and it ends with you losing and your character dying. That's what makes it so awesome and effective.

(It's not a happy game. It's a game that's going to rip out your hopes, put them through a meat grinder and store them in the fridge in quart ziploc bags.)
Average time to beat the game according to howlongtobeat.com: 2-3 hours. So rather wishlisted and waiting for a sale than instabought.
Hey giant sparrow, care to explain why it's 10 cents cheaper on Steam right now?

Thanks for the spoiler, boyo!

Gamecard copy can't be spoilers. Do you also complain when a movie titled "Star Wars" involves battles in outer space?

I haven't read the gamecard, idiot. Silly argument you've found there.

Thank you. Helped me a lot (and I read the gamecard so even though I really hate spoilers I would not consider this - given that it is the main focus of the game - a spoiler for me. Although I do understand that there are people out there who don't want to know ANYTHING about a game before playing it.

So for me this would mean 4-6 hours gametime - I rarely hit the same gametime those hardcore gamers do :)

M okay, so what did you think was going to be discussed in the thread titled "Release: What Remains of Edith Finch"? Geriatric midget porn? Calamari cooking? Convolutional neural networks?
I played it already. Nice trip. I have to hate it as a game since all you have to do is press a button on move the mouse. But I have to praise the story and the feels put int this at the same time.
I'll have to check out this game. I was going to anyway, but now I really need to. I can't believe that any game beat out Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice in the Best Narrative category at the Game Awards 2017 (available on youtube). It must be a hell of a story.

It really is! As much as I loved the story in Hellblade, Edith Finch grabs your heart and your gut and thoroughly invests you into its narrative. One of the best emotion-evoking games ever. Despite it's 3-4 hour length, it will still be in your mind months later!

Pshaw! If I wanted that I'd play Carmageddon. :D
I read this as 33% off until dec 26. I was going to buy it, but now I'll skip.

MarkoH01: If you want to be certain people don't take things for real you wrote as a joke just use those thingies => ;)
Sure, if you want to make certain, but where's the fun in that? (Besides, you can reasonably expect people to read the whole thing before responding.)

MarkoH01: I did not downvote it but I will help reversing this as well.
Cool. :)
