The art is very nice and it's a very imaginative piece of work, but some of the puzzles make absolutely no sense so you'll probably have to use walkthroughs for a few parts (even with the walkthrough I wasn't able to figure out why one puzzle made sense).

The voice of the main character could also get on your nerves. I got used to him pretty quickly though.

I'd just like to say I echo the concerns of other fellow GOG customers in this thread by saying I, too, am dissapointed in GOG's decision not to release the German version of the Whispered World. Not only are providing your German customers with an inferior - if not unplayable - version of this excellent game by not giving them the option to play in their native language, you alienating what is the largest audience for this game.

Also, I sincerely hope this does not become a precedent of preferring English customers to your international, non-English speaking customers; such a precedent could be viewed as discriminatory by several major governments, such as the United States and the European Union. Even it if isn't, it will erode my trust in what has, in my view, been a very customer-oriented digital download service.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am an American customer who speaks English, not a customer who lives in a predominantly German-speaking country.

Play the demo first folks, the game is known to be incompatible with some systems (like my laptop.)

i don't know the english version, but the main character is extremely annoying in german, so it wouldn't be an improvement, i guess....

nonetheless once again lame language support from gog. not the first time, that there's only an english version, while other download platforms offer multilanguage. thumbs down!

I normally would care less about the German version but since this IS in it's original form a German game, the original voices would be very nice.

While I didn't play the German version, coming from someone who played it in English I found the voice acting fine.

The main character might throw you off at first because of his voice, but it REALLY does fit the character once you get into the game imo.

Apart from the lacking German support, I'd like to bring up another question. With this "new GOG" does this mean the two price points are now toast? I see the preorder for Legend of Grimrock and the price for The Whispered World are not 9.99.

This game is fantastic. I bought it on Steam 1st day for twice as much and felt I got every penny worth from it.

I'm somehow having a very hard time believing this. Not that the audience is comparatively small, but that Steam would take that as grounds to not accept a game. It costs them next to nothing to add a game to their catalogue and earn whatever percentage they take from the sales. That's the beauty of digital distribution, isn't it? The only real expenses they have -- transfer costs and customer support -- are proportional to the number of copies sold.
Also, from some of the games I've seen released on Steam, I can hardly believe that they have a larger audience than a well-made point & click adventure. (And Daedalic adventures are about as well-made as they get.)

Hard to understand the lack of other languages, while Steam offers several of them. But, it is not the first time, with The last express happened the same thing, because in Dotemu you have several lenguages available. It seems, sadly, that GOG doesn´t care much about this matter.

But it is true. The Director of Daedalic made a post two month ago in the german adventure-treff forum.

As long as there is no German version, I won't even consider buying this, sorry.

Same goes for other German games like Gilde, Spellforce or Gothic. I even bought the latter from the competitor, dotEmu. Not happily, but they were the only ones who could get me a DRM-free, German version of the games.

Does anybody know if this game will run in wine?
