Great to see Beteshda onboard.

Fallout pages show I don't own the games. Guess Bethesda wants us to rebuy them, even though we already bought them when Interplay still held the rights.

Elmofongo: Does playing Daggerfall from "DagggerfallSetup" have the same issues?
avatar
Crosmando: Read the page. Yes, DaggerfallSetup is bundled with a whole bunch of fan-made fixes all in one installer.
ooh also is GOG's version of Arena the CD one with the speech files? IIRC the official one of the Beth website was the floppy version that lacked it...

toxicTom: Now I really hope for a Morrowind Mod Spotlight. Some of the good old mods sadly went under with PlanetElderscrolls. Would be nice to know if they're still available somewhere (or if there are alternatives).

A great mod but not just graphical changes. It changes/ tweaks a lot of things. More info about it in it moddb page. ;-)

Buy a game and get a free game for free!
Too bad the strategy guides weren't included, though from what I recall, they were a rare item even back in the day.

andysheets1975: So...I haven't kept up but did they ever make mods for Morrowind that (1) cut down on the number of cliff racers, and (2) ditched the level scaling?
I liked "Rational wildlife" which stopped most animal-like critters from attacking (except if they were diseased or provoked). Seems rather hard to find nowadays, though I should have a backup somewhere.

This one also looks promising. Haven't tried it, though.

I prefer a non-aggressive behavior over eliminating the animals from the game, since the latter destroys a bit of atmosphere for me.
I was hoping to see either Elder Scrolls IV or V, but I guess GOG can't get them yet?

How is Elder Scrolls III compared to the others?

Crosmando: I'd advise anyone thinking of it to NOT play vanilla Daggerfall unless you like corrupted savegames, crashing and bugs, use this:
http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN
I never experienced any corrupted savegames and it didn't crash particularly often, either.
Good to see Bethesda on board, even with oldies only. I hope we might get their new games too.

Anyway, as interested in playing Morrowind as I am, the cold hard fact is I could get the retail version (not even used) for about 1/2 of that price. I'll wait for some big sale and get it then, as I'm not sure If I'll love it, or find it unplayable nowadays, not having played it before.

The download on Bethesda's site is 8.8 MB. The one on GOG is 72 MB. Hopefully that's not just because of the installer.
Seem like I finally got myself morrowind and the other games in that bundle.

Sachys: Opinions on Redguard anyone? - can't say I've ever heard much about it.
From what I remember of Redguard it is played a little more like an adventure game. Take the right item to the guy to move forward kind of thing. I don't remember if there was much fighting or not. I liked it but it didn't really have any replay-ability. If what you really enjoy from an elder scrolls game is creating a character and leveling it up in different ways then be aware that this game has none of that. You play a specific character in this one.

IronArcturus: How is Elder Scrolls III compared to the others?
Better writing and world-building, better main quest, more interesting world (architecture), but:

No hand-holding (quest-arrows), instead text-descriptions which require you to actually read them and find your way around.

No quick-travel except for "in game" - meaning you can go by boat or "creature" and you have spell that can teleport you - but no "open the map, select destination, and you're there". Love it :-)

UI a little clumsy (and tiny with high-res-mods). Combat is more stat-based (visibly hitting does not mean dealing damage).

Crafting (enchanting) and alchemy is a lot of fun (though you can totally overpower your character through abuse). Overall character development is more complex (more stats and spell schools).

There are lots of more slots of clothing/armor/equipment than i.e. in Skyrim, allowing for wild combinations. There's also more variety of clothing/armor - if you like dressing up your character :-). On the other hand, face and hair don't have that many options.

MW requires more work (and lots of reading) if you really want to dive into the story. But it has been for me the most satisfying TES experience ever.

Sounds interesting! So can people start with Morrowind without having played the previous two? Do you know if the engine allows windowed mode?

You can enable windowed mode in .ini file
