Meowing. Meowing. Meowing! Meowing in your head.

The Cat Lady, a visually bewildering point-and-click adventure game with dark and violent theme and a mad, genuinely unnerving story, is available 25% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the first week!

People are imperfect. That's a fact. But just knowing it, and seeing the extent of their imperfection, makes a colossal difference. So filled with fear, and aggression we are, us humans. Always threading so close to the edge of sanity, keeping the madness at bay only by means of everyday habits and social contract. But on the inside? What kind of insane thoughts fester the mind of the people you randomly pass by on the streets? What sick ideas would you find, if you had the ability to look into the minds of your close ones? Your neighbors? Your co-workers? You'll never know. But admit it, deep inside you're terrified of what might be going on in other people's heads. The true human nature might be the greatest horror in existence. This is a game playing on those fears.

The Cat Lady uses the classic point and click mechanics to tell a story that will put your mind way outside your comfort zone. It depicts violence, fear, and psychosis in a way that's both surreal and unsettlingly realistic. Its original art style adds even further to the depressive and unhinging mood. If you like an occasional trip to the other side of sanity and you're not afraid of some explicit imagery on the way, The Cat Lady will be an experience you won't soon forget.

Sometimes, we like to challenge you to stare deep into the void. Today is one of these days. Go on, get The Cat Lady for only $7.49 on GOG.com. Play it. Stay sane. Come back for more.

It's on GamersGate and on Wadjet Eye shop... But the current version has a bug that blocks one of the endings.
It's on the wishlist - vote and maybe we'll get a remastered version here on GOG : ) Joe Davis got some recognition due to his cameo in The Cat Lady.

Bloodygoodgames: Watching the trailer I can tell it's too realistic for my taste. :)

I like my violence in fantasy mode, not in the real world with real world graphic language.

I'm sure some on GOG will love it, but it's not for me.
Do not be put off so easily Bloodygoodgames!

It is actually one of the first adventure games in ages that got me interested. Maybe it's not because the violence but because the themes and problems of real people in real life that it tries to discuss with the player - like violence at homes, drinking, loneliness, looking for a goal and meaning in life, etc. I have seen trailers and reviews for dozens and dozens of adventure games but they are all too cute and silly for me. I will definitely give this one a try, once my backlog will diminish and I will have some spare time. Wishlisted for now!

Novotnus: It's a deep, emotional story about survival, restoration, friendship and finding one's happyness back... Hidden under some strong - yet not very realistic - gore.
Thanks for the description. I wasn't sure about getting the game, due to my chronic depression, but this actually sounds quite intriguing.

Wishlisted for now.

SS2? o.0 I think you are confusing me with somebody else. Either that or my memory is faulty again.

...right ; )
Somehow I connected your avatar with that giveaway hosted by generous Antimateria. It's my head that's failing, not yours : )
Still, you are very welcome to join my The Cat Lady giveaway! One of let's players admited she suffers from depression. She reached the end of the game and - from what she said - she liked how the author describes depression and liked the conclusion of this story.

Good. I was getting worried again.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather buy it myself, once I have the money.

That is good to hear.
I'm tempted by this, but watched a gameplay video and it looked really boring, can someone tell me whats good about it please, just looks slow, plodding and badly voiced.

Thanks for any insight :)
Is someone holding the cat lady against her will?
One of those things I'll get eventually; right now, I have a backlog of horror games, and they always go kind of slow (because they should properly be played at night, and I need my sleep, meaning that I can only really play them when I don't have stuff to do the following day).

That's why I'm not that interested in it at the moment. Too many years spent in non-profits dealing with people's 'real life' problems. Gets incredibly depressing and don't really enjoy that kind of game in my free time.

Will see what others have to say about it and, if it's looking positive, will wish list for later.

As it stands right now, I just bought Evoland and, 2 hours in, am having a blast!!

Depends on what kind of horror you like. If you enjoy fast-paced modern approach or jumpscare-based media, you probably won't like TCL.
On the other hand, if you enjoy well written characters, mystery and existential questions; if you can sit through 20-minutes-long conversation about life and stuff and enjoy it - you'll like (or even love) the game.
Quick survey from the top of my head : )
Hellraiser, Halloween of Friday 13th? If Hellraiser - you'll probably like TCL.
Early Peter Jackson (Braindead, Bad Taste) or David Lynch (Erasehead, Mulholand Drive, Twin Peaks)? If Lynch, you'll probably like TCL.
Graham Masterton or Stephen King? This one is hard, as the game has some Masterton-like aesthetics, but storytelling is rather King-ish.
Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment? [yeah, your avatar kind of answers this one ; )] If Torment - you'll probably enjoy TCL.
Those are, of course, my personal opinions. If you want to check the game before buying, try the demo here:

The only adventure games I've played are TLJ and Dreamfall, which I played a month ago, but THIS, THIS is immediately wishlisted and in highest priority with Beyond Good and Evil and Hotline Miami behind it.

Looks interesting, although I'm not sure if the "dark/gory/gritty" look is just a gimmick or is there something more behind it. Wishlisted for the time being.
