One delightful pirate reunion

We have launched a new developer today--Telltale Games, the finest purveyor of episodic adventure games--and we’re starting off with three fantastic adventures: Sam & Max Save the World, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, and Tales of Monkey Island. All three games are on a huge "Welcome to GOG" sale for Telltale, and will be 60% off until 3 July.

Tales of Monkey Island, a game full of pirates, voodoo, and Guybrush Threepwood, is available for the next 7 days with a huge 60% discount--that’s $13.99 for the game with wallpapers, avatars, high-res artworks, developer commentary videos and more goodies.

Tales of the Monkey Island is the fifth game in the beloved Monkey Island series. The game follows fair-haired Guybrush Threepwood who, along with his new wife Elaine Marley-Threepwood, finds himself on a new adventure. This time, our heroes are on a goal to destroy two things: Guybrush's arch-nemesis--the zombie pirate LeChuck--and a voodoo pox that Guybrush accidentally unleashed upon the world. The entertaining story, stunning visuals, clever puzzles, and faithful adherence to the original Monkey Island games earned a lot of praise from critics and great commercial success as well. Tales of the Monkey Island is available on sale for $13.99 until Tuesday, July 3 at 6:59 AM EDT. Be sure to check out the other Telltale Games releases today, all of which are on sale for until 3 July.

If you’re a fan of old-school adventure games or a pirate (YARRRRRR!) you don’t really need any recommendation for and Tales of Monkey Island for $13.99.

keeveek: I have to say this: the regular price is OUTRAGEOUS.
avatar
kodeen: Same as other DD's.
Exactly. OUTRAGEOUS.
avatar
Necdilzor: Does this mean we can expect the other Monkey Island games from now on? O:

Just checked out at TellTale and the full price for the complete series is $34.99.

Even at full price we are saving money at GOG.
No... because 13.99 + 21 is 34.99.

DukeNukemForever: No. Telltale is an indie developer and got the license from LucasArts to develop some episodic games for the Sam&Max and Monkey Island franchise. If gog don't get LucasArts on board there is no chance to get the classics. Telltale also released the remake on their site, I guess they were involved in the engine but I'm not sure. It's not very likely for me we will at last we see this here.
Just Monkey Island, Sam & Max has nothing to do with LucasArts as they were licencing it from Steve Purcell (and that licence expired).

tfishell: I suppose I should be excited, but at that regular price and release date, and Telltale feeling like one giant QTE at times, I'm not really. But of course if others are interested, have at these titles.
Is Jurassic Park the only TT game you've played/seen? >.>

I hope Sam Max Season 3 comes soon too.

I agree! It is so outrageous that I'm going to use this discount to obtain the games. Ha, that'll show them.

In fact, I have this theory that the publishers are not even expecting anyone to pay the full price, but to get their games on promo discounts. So it doesn't really matter what the default price is, only whether the discounted price feels ok to most people.

Then again, people are different, to some 50000€ might be pocket money.

Leroux: Also, thanks a lot for convincing Telltale to let go of their stupid online activation DRM. I know it's a non-issue for most and considered as acceptable, but personally I've had nothing but trouble with it and I welcome a truly DRM-free solution.
Well their DVDs have been DRM-free for a few years (the DVDs you get with the downloads for the price of shipping, can't speak for the retail DVDs).

But what are they thinking? for 30 bucks i can get 3 AAA titles from 2011/2012 ...

That just proves how silly this is. If they are okay with giving out DRM-free games on DVD, why not make the download versions DRM-free, too? Besides, you only get backup DVDs for half of their games.
It seems we finally got Monkey Island.

Hold on [to the side] What's that? What?? Really? But how's that even....

Okay, Lucas Arts owes me an apology for every day we don't have the original MI here, starting right now.

It is stupid. I kind of hope that now they sell the downloads DRM-free here, they'll strip the DRM from their own downloads.
I own the Tales of Monkey Island already, but it's a worthy purchase if you're somewhat interested in point-n-click adv. games, and a definite buy for Monkey Island-fans.

However, and I mean this with all due respect, Tales are not up to the par with the original installments of the series. Episodic gaming can really be hit or miss, and at least two of these five episodes are pretty average. As an overall package, it's certainly decent enough though.
Welcome, Telltale Games!

These really should be $9.99 though, even without sales, considering how often they've been on sale all over the place. Steam usually has the entire collection for $15 or so semi-regularly.

It's hard to compete with the first two, and maybe even with the third, but how would you compare Tales of Monkey Island to Escape from Monkey Island, assuming you played both?

Skyrim's default price still is 50€ though, and it isn't even DRM-free. Bastards!

Anyway, I vote with my wallet.

No no, I've played a demo for Sam & Max (somewhat fun) and seen some of The Walking Dead (meh). I just don't see anything particularly innovative or interesting in their titles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telltale_Games#Games_developed
These games are great. Even with the not original Stan voice actor.
