In the Press:

Eurogamer considers the game "Essential" saying: "The great joy of Failbetter's latest is once again the ghoulish inventiveness of the writing and setting".

"The sharpest writing around, wrapped inside a surprising adventure that’s tough but rarely unfair. Failbetter’s finest hour" - 90/100 PC Gamer

RockPaperShotgun deems it one of its "Bestest Bests" praising all the small but meaningful ways in which this sequel to Sunless Sea improves upon the formula.
A title like "Sunless Skies" and seeing a train made me think of a game I would like to see show up on GOG, and that is Silmarils's "Transarctica" (or Arctic Baron in the US). Probably won't ever show up here, but it's be nice.
And another game that is more expensive here then on steam. :/

Zoidberg: Couldn't get into their web based game or sunless seas, the level/quantity of english is just too high to enjoy. I warn my fellow non english born gamers.
Is it? I've played both Fallen London (max stats) and Sunless Sea and didn't think the writing was of "too high a level" to enjoy. Anyway, will probably grab this eventually*, as Sunless Sea is the reason I registered on GOG (to support the developers).
*"eventually" since I never fully completed the Zubmariner expansion due to it being released in an incomplete state and I prefer to not dive back into a game months later because the final content got added.

tinyE: I guess I'll try Sunless Sea again, though I'm having trouble.

reative00: 1. Turn off permadeath (it adds nothing, besides frustration)
2. Explore instead of taking the usual routes
3. Turn on cheat engine and bid three speedhack settings; 1x as default/fighting one, 2x as normal for the majority of the game, 3x for routes you've already explored

You can ignore point three if you have a lot of time, but as someone who sank over 200 hours in Sunless Sea, the "spend 20 minutes to get this very tiny bit of lore and repeat infinitely" gimmick is getting annoyed after first ~50hours. Sunless Sea is VERY grindy for nothing other than "so far we made browser game in which grinding is mandatory to keep players". It's much, much better handled in Skies, thankfully.
This is great to hear!
I spended quite some time with Seas but the Metagame and the repeated grinding after you started a New Playthrough to reach the point where you could investigate late midgame and endgame stories&lore made me give up.

Well, that's the impression I got. But having quite a decent english language, it may also be because of the style they impregnated their text, maybe I'm just not a big fan of that. I dunno, I may check it out again...

My English reading skills are more than good, and still Sunless Sea isn’t a game I would launch after a long day of work. My guess is that even for native speakers it is not what we could call easy reading.

But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s in my opinion great writing ;)
Let's say that a translation into the main languages would be very useful for these two games. XD
Have been playing this for couple hours, so far the game is a lot of fun. :)
