Europe’s answer to JRPGs

The story of epic conflict of light versus dark and steel versus Silver is available for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

Something is wrong in the world: an evil sorcerer has abducted all of the women in it for his own evil and nefarious purposes. You and your grandfather set on a journey to rescue your beloved Jennifer, who has been kidnapped by a lustful wizard named Silver, who’s searching for a new bride and ordered his son to round up all the ladies of the land, which naturally pissed you off, which will result in evil wizard being defeated, which will only be possible after you visit over 200 awe-inspiring locations, meet 50 NPCs and recruit a team of six bravest of the mighty, and mightiest of the brave, which might not sound like an awesome premise for a game, but is in fact a great action RPG, which blends many different elements and delivers wonderfully entertaining swashbuckling goodness. Swish! Kling! Klang! Swoosh! KA-pow!

Silver takes the feeling and looks of the game from jRPG but offers a unique combat system: instead of simply clicking an enemy to attack, you can get into some kind of “battle mode” and thrust, sideswipe, back swing, dodge, and parry. And that’s awesome! The story is linear but makes up for it by being interesting and fast-paced. Graphics? 3D polygonal characters on rendered 2D backdrops similar to Alone in the Dark, but don’t think that the graphics are bad; backgrounds look fantastic, and characters are nicely animated.

Overall, Silver is a great RPG; it does not offer the depth of Baldur’s Gate, but it’s a great time-and-wizard-killer that combines elements action and adventure of Final Fantasy VII, Diablo, and Die by the Sword and delivers wonderful sound, graphics, and interface. Silver is available right now on GOG.com for only $5.99!

wormholewizards: "Silver"? Quite an odd and simple title for a video game.
Reminds me of the good old days of gaming. Now we have stuff like:

Game Title 2: Subtitle VI: 3: HD: GOTY Edition

And the inconsistent numbering drives me mad:
Game
Game 2
Game: Revelations
Game: Redemption
Game: Revenge
Game 3

What's really odd is the fact that it's the name of the villain (and he isn't even a pirate!).
Mother of God ! Amazing release !

[Rage mode] No more releases today? That's it? [/Rage mode]
This is outrageous. How dare you GOG, how dare you? :P

Dreadz: And the inconsistent numbering drives me mad:
At least it's better than simply reusing the exact same title. Now these titles refer to at least two games:
Syndicate
Wolfenstein
Devil May Cry
Medal of Honor
Prince of Persia
Bionic Commando
Tomb Raider

Not to mention the absurd history of the "Alien vs Predator" franchise which spans several games with an identical title with a few exceptions (where the difference between "Alien" and "Aliens" or "versus" and "vs." determines which game we're talking about). >.<

Nirth_90: This looks interesting yet I've never heard about it. Is it decent? I guess it's too soon to ask for any technical issues regarding modern systems along with famous game breaking bugs if it had any.
It's definitely decent. Not the greatest game of all times, but decent - yeah! Even quite nice, I think. What I've seen from the story is your average simple RPG plot, evil tyrant kidnaps good guy's wife or something, good guy assembles a rebel team and goes after him, fighting guards and monsters on the way. It gets a little more interesting as you go along, but it doesn't seem all that special. The JRPG label might be a bit misleading though if you associate it with turn-based combat, because Silver is more of an Action RPG.

Anyway, I've had it standing on my shelf for years thinking it was lame, but when I decided to finally give it a real chance two years ago or so and played for a little while, it was actually fun. So it's not just about nostalgia, I think it can still be enjoyed today, if you like Action RPGs. I had to run it on Win98, because even though it seemed to work on Vista, there were some annoying graphical glitches like stripes all over the screen. Hopefully that's fixed now ...

Oh, my! I still have the retail disc of this game lying around. It is a very good game and I was always puzzled why it wasn't a huge success.

The combat is immensely satisfiying and I have never seen anything quite like it. The music is top notch, too. The story is quite silly and basic but you won't mind.

What bothered me about my version was that I had the choice between English voices or no voices and Dutch subtitles. Does the gog version allow English voices and English subtitles?

Great release

I hope GOG continues to release more Underrated/Unknown cult classics in the future, I think that's one of the main things what sets it apart from other DD services
This is it! This is the one I've been waiting for for years. Thank you GoG. Thank you so much!
yeah right this is really a game i have been waiting for but i forgot it's title until today... :D
