Create a New Nation.

Sid Meier's Colonization, a turn-based strategy in which you can become the conquistador of the New World, is available now for $5.99, only on GOG.com.

You probably missed the first ships in 1492 (unless you’re a Highlander), you might have played the the game in 1994 or 95 when the game was originally released (but you probably don’t have the floppy or an Amiga anymore), and now you’ve got your third and final chance to conquer the Americas: the digital version of Colonization, brought to you by GOG.com.

Sid Meier's Colonization is much more than just an improved version of strategy classic Civilization from 1991: instead of building your own civilization from scratch, you start as as a nation’s leader and begin colonizing the newly discovered world. Each of the European powers: England, France, Spain, or Netherlands has its own bonuses that make it unique, like Dutch trading, French negotiations, or Spanish military bonuses against the native villages. Depending on what you choose, you’ll be more of a colonist, trader, diplomat, or brutal conquistador. Ultimately, you’ll declare independence--but not without a fight!

Dealing with three European superpowers, eight native tribes, and finally the King's expeditionary force arriving to teach you a lesson, Colonization is a difficult task, especially since there are thousands of interactive elements that can change the outcome of each playthrough. The simple idea, mixed with creative genius of Sid Meier, and rules of a turn-based-strategy, make for a game that can be replayed forever.

Set sail, land, and claim Sid Meier's Colonization as your own for only $5.99 on GOG.com.
Please... Alien Crossfire and Civilization 3 x.x

Thanks for this one GOG :D
Any reason to pick this over FreeCol?
Shame on me for never getting to play this game... until now!

You've done it again, GOG. Proving those doubters wrong, one great game at a time.

GOG's slowly but surely becoming a 4X-gamer's wet dream. ;)
Wishlisted
I choose to believe that the city names on the screenshots are prophecies - now I'm in my happy place.

Wishlisted here never played this but looks good.
Really interesting release. The graphics looks like the dos version, but the filesize and the seperate soundtracks lead to the cd-version. I thought there was only a cd-version for windows, but the facts show that I was wrong. Very good game, but I still prefer the civilization series. Anyone knows why Atari got the licenses for it?

Well, I only ever knew of the floppy and CD DOS versions. So there!

Good to know, learning never stops ;-)
In some ways, the DOS version is actually better than the standalone expansion for Civ IV. Regardless, I weirdly enough already own this on floppy disks, so I will probably have to pass.
Just read up on the wikipedia page that a more historically accurate 'slave labor' was not included, much to Sid Meier's chargrin, due to a stupid publisher decision.

Reminds me of a certain boardgame called Puerto Rico. Those settlers sure love working those farms! =P At least in that game I can call them slaves no matter what the dumb manual says.

My wife tried playing FreeCol. She struggled to enjoy it though. She did play this for constantly for a couple of months though.

Same goes for the Civ4 version of colonization. Found it hard to get into.

Might just be nostalgia though.

EDIT: Love the screenshots. Very ingenious way to hint at the future
