GOG Digital Premieres - Call of Cthulhu Adventures

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, a mind-bending duo of Call of Cthulhu adventure classics, premiere digitally right now - DRM-free on GOG.com.

An original horror-adventure duo from Infogrames, (the company well known for their Alone in the Dark series) Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are two of the very few games that get to boast actually taking place within the Call of Cthulhu mythos. With a pedigree like that, you can be sure that you're getting the best of the atmosphere and uncomfortable flavor of a true H.P. Lovecraft story.

Shadow of the Comet (Win + Linux) is the tale of a young British photographer out to capture a one-of-a-kind comet passing over an isolated New England town of Illsmouth. He discovers that the last person to attempt this spent the rest of his life in a high-security lunatic asylum. Soon, he'll also discover why… In Prisoner of Ice (Win + Mac + Linux) an indirect sequel to Shadow of the Comet, you're just another officer aboard the HMS Victoria - a military sub returning from a simple extraction operation. Just another run of the mill job, the target is safe and you're counting down the time till your shore leave. Little do you know, it's also a matter of time until you look straight in the eye of an ancient evil aboard.

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are terrifying 2D adventure games that received critical acclaim for successfully capturing the unique atmosphere of tales like "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and, of course, "The Call of Cthulhu". Whether you're a Lovecraft fan, or just searching for the right excuse to discover the legend - these are stories you have to experience.

Heed the call of Cthulhu in Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com!
Ooh, time to get out my Cthulhu mask again.

Oh. Hell. Yes!!!

As a major adventure fan and also someone who highly regards H.P. Lovecraft (even though I don't blindly gobble up everything that has the -- often misleading -- "lovecraftian" label on it), I more than welcome these two titles on the store! Great additions, really, and ones I would have insta-bought had I the money for it, right now.

Times are tough for me at the moment, but as soon as things get better I'll most definitely buy these two!

Thank you, GOG!

Happy gaming. :D
More Atari, nice!
By the way, the description of the game at http://www.gog.com/game/call_of_cthulhu_shadow_of_the_comet needs to be changed. The main character is John T, Parker, not John T. Carter. :P
Second day on my holiday, weather is not so good - I think to myself: let's see what gog has released this time. DANG! Love it. 2015 is by far the best for gog (in terms of released classics). It would be instabuy for me but it'll have to wait until I get home.

But having such great games in the portfolio - why don't you tease us and build a bit hype around released games..?
Near-instabuy! One question, though... I've heard there are some dead ends / unwinnable states in this game. Are they bad? I don't mind tough puzzles, but I hate being forced to restart the game after several hours just because I missed a pixel-wide object in one of the first screens that I can't get back to now.

Because with older games we never know if we won't run into a problem somewhere down the line while testing them. It's easier to do this with newer games since their developers are still around and they can still fix issues that we find, if any.
I remember both of these games from back in the day, but without the "Call of Cthulhu" title in them. Never played them, but was tempted several times. Will definitely have to grab these eventually...
Holy shit. You finally got them!
I was just starting to recover from the launch of the Warhammer titles, and lo, here come these two Cthulhu-inspired games... GOG is really doing great lately! Even though I am no big fan of adventure games, as a lover of HP Lovecraft's fiction I was hoping for the release of "Shadow of the Comet", which is generally regarded as one of the best Lovecraftian games ever made (but I confess that the cumbersome interface puts me off a bit - not really a "point'n'click" adventure, strictly speaking).
It's good to see "Prisoner of Ice" here as well. Now it would be great if GOG also released "Dark Corners of the Earth" (in an updated, fully working version for newer operating systems, with bugs and glitches fixed) but we know that's not going to be easy...

EDIT: I became aware that the CD-ROM version has mouse support. The user lamenting the lack of a point-and-click feature in his review on the game's page was evidently writing about the floppy version. No need to worry about the cumbersome interface, then. Wishlisted.

true, i had prisoner of ice back then on retail cd, and i remember that the game was 'bugged' at least at one point, unfortunately that is long time ago and i dont remeber on what point it crashed or the game 'broke up' i do know there was at least 1 problem .

the other older pixel like game , is unknown to me so i dont know what it had regarding bugs , flaws or other things.

I've completed both games and I'm not aware of any dead-ends in either of them. Of course that doesn't mean there aren't any, but a quick google didn't reveal anything about dead-ends either so I wouldn't worry. Obviously, I'd still recommend saving fairly regularly and keeping old saves if they are limited in number (can't remember if there are unlimited saves or not).

Shadow of the Comet is the harder game and has a stronger atmosphere than Prisoner of Ice, but they are both good adventures and I really enjoyed playing them.

true, i am waiting and hoping for the 5th musketeer (dos) game, click and point adventure i have it on cd and managed to get it to play using dos box and some hassling with settings but it worked, also eager to see bermuda syndrome (16bit and win 3.11 compatible) (also on retail cd) on GOG, this game worked after messing around with the win 3.11 filemanager.

And lastly, Elkmoon Murder 2 cd game (dos .win95)(16 bit) (also in my collection) would be nice to see this one here, its a great (fmv) adventure.

Just bought Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet + Prisoner of Ice

Zeewolf: Considering your nick, it's not entirely surprising that you know a fair bit about Lovecraftian games. :)
Darkness Within.
Here, have one more for the road.

Absolutely positive that there are no dead-ends in Prisoner Of Ice, and I can't remember any in Shadow Of The Comet. If there are any, I didn't encounter them, which means they are not Leisure Suit Larry 2 styled anyway.

Wow, Instabuy! Really, thank you so much for these two games, especially Shadow of the Comet from which I can't play my CD Version anymore. Thanks! :)
