Rise of the Dragon has dated a lot, though it got the cyberpunk theme perfectly. It has branched gameplay, but loads of dead ends as well (and it features two clunky arcade sequences). Heart of China is better and has some humour, but oh my God how those racist jokes hurt right now (something shared with the superior Willy Beamish - a game where the workers unions are the evil... oh Christ).

Anyway, interesting if you are interested in adventure games and have a walkthrough nearby.

The 1990 King's Quest SCI remake isn't here, I believe.

I played Rise of the Dragon on the sega CD...I enjoyed it a lot back in the day. This one is an insta buy for me. Like with the adventures of willy beamish though i'm thinking the sound track may be dumbed down like in the willy beamish one as the sega cd had enhanced audio. From what I remember I really did enjoy the whole game and played it to the end back in the day. I'l review it after I play thru it. TY GOG! it says the game has some goodies on the sale page like a hint book and comic.

Like willy beamish eventually it will go on sale likely so if you don't buy it now, its worth getting later if you like adventure games.

I have this one boxed...unused, mint condition, complete with the 6x 3.5" disks that have never seen a drive. My main PC doesn't have a floppy drive though...

As with most floppy PC (MS-DOS) games, the floppies are needed only for installation, and the installed game is fully portable.

I still have the installed versions of Heart of China and Rise of the Dragon which have moved from a PC to another over the years. I still have the games in this PC too running in DOSBox, even though the installation floppies are long gone (I've thrown them to trashbin at some point, no point in keeping them when you have the game installed already).

Unless you have a receipt of your purchase, then the physical media has a secondary function of being your proof of a legal copy. Without the receipt or the physical media, you really don't have any way to prove that you actually have a legal copy.

Then again, it's kind of hypothetical thing, as it's highly unlikely that anyone will ever come to ask that, but still, I have never thrown any physical media away, partly for that reason and partly for collecting purposes.

Well, I was only half serious. I know there is something off with Activision.

It also can be a common laziness. May be they made some general contract with GOG in the times before Linux support here, and it uses some language like "for Windows". To add Linux, GOG need to involve lawyers on both sides, and Activision might be too lazy to lift a finger about it.

Anyway, I'm glad this classic is here.
