There’s Pandemonium in the crowds!

When a young sorceress, a court jester, and a demented stick-puppet get hold of the ancient wizard spellbook titled "Ancient Wizards Spellbook", use of which "May result in danger and death", you can expect Pandemonium on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Pandemonium is a 2,5D platform game: the player can move in two dimensions but in a full 3D environment, which is displayed from all types of perspectives and angles to give the game a dynamic look. Before each level, player can select a character: the sorceress Nikki who can double-jump, or Fargus the joker, who can deliver a special spinning attack by throwing his talking stick-puppet called Sid. Later, you'll also gain access to fireballs or shrink- and freeze-rays. Apart from that, you can expect everything you remember from ‘90s platformers: many difficult levels, incredibly impressive boss-fights, collecting coins and hidden prizes, and a ceaseless wave of enemies.

Pandemonium came out in the heyday of platformers, in the times of Crash Bandicoot, Earthworm Jim, Jazz Jackrabit, and Gex--which was developed by the creators of Pandemonium. It was a time when gaming was simple but challenging and brilliantly entertaining. And that’s what Pandemonium is: plain good platforming fun that, thanks to 3D graphics and camera movement, is also a fast-paced vertigo-inducing romp.

Pandemonium is top-notch old-school platforming for only $5.99 only on GOG.com.
I know I have played it on the PC when it came out (I was never into consoles), and if I remember it well I have been very disappointed then. However, I will put it on the wishlist and see what others has to say.

TurnipSlayerr: I forgot we were releasing this game! I used to love it back on the PS1, still have it too. Couldn't stand the final boss but would definitely recommend it to any platformer fans.

JMich: A new blue! Who are you and what is your job? Will we be asking you questions often? When did you start working at GOG.com? Why haven't you introduced yourself yet?
Welcome to the forums btw, hope we won't scare you (much).
AHH! Questions!

I'm Arek, a new addition to the Bizdev team. I've been working for GOG for about three months now but just got the exclusive blue text privileges a few days ago.

Also, my profile is rather misleading. I'm from New Zealand, not Poland.

Thanks for the welcome. Perhaps you'll see me around again, perhaps I'll just lurk, you never know.

P.S. N0x0ss, I have to find an avatar as awesome as Tombi, this is no easy task and may take some time.

EverettLamb: Not heard of either release also, but both look neat. Consider each game to be wishlisted on a list of 200+ games to be bought. :P
Same here. It's wish listed for now, but I like it when things like this happen. It is nice to fine new-to-me older games that completely passed over my radar at the time.

DCT: But for the most part most of the "user" reviews I can find are generally positive about the game.

StingingVelvet: Early PS1 hype might be a thing there... I dunno. I remember vividly the consensus being that it was terrible. Who knows though!
I believe the 2nd one might have had fairly bad ratings, I don't remember enough about the first to remember the reviews.

haydenaurion: Do the CG cutscenes work or are they freezing up like GOG's version of Tomb Raiders 2 & 3?
avatar
Onkel_Donald: I've seen the logos and the intro a couple of times now and they've played always without freezes or similar problems.
Cool, thanks!

Rincewind81: It seems to be a software Version. The 3dfx Logo is there, but it just doesn`t look "right".
avatar
Thiev: It's not software version. However, it uses nGlide for emulating 3dfx, which does not support texture filtering in Pandemonium by default.
More info here.
Ah, that makes Pandemonium the very first fruit of the mutually beneficial collaboration between GOG and nGlide. Is that right?

Catoblepas: What consensus? I never knew Pandemonium had a reputation as a bad game...I played this thing obsessively back on the PS1. A fun platformer IMO.

It was quite difficult at times, perhaps this is where it got its reputation?
As someone suggested, I think it was because the Mario64 graze was at its highest when this game was released with its old-skool 2D platformer style. I think all platform games released then were compared to Mario 64, and were expected to have similar gameplay.

2nd I believe as I believe the Tomb Raider 1+2+3 bundle uses Nglide
Ahhh, here come all the Glide games, do you think we'll be lucky to be blessed with Turok some day soon? Or maybe Redguard?

Redguard will depend on getting Bethesda/Zenimax on board while Turok, probably not since Acclaim went belly up ages ago and there IPs were scattered to the four winds some went to EA, others went to THQ, yet some went to We Go Interactive Co. Ltd and alot(150) went to Throwback Entertainment but I think Turok is in the hands of someone else.

In that case, I wonder if some games already on GOG will be updated with nGlide installations (MDK, Interstate 76, Messiah, Lands of Lore 2 and Simon the Sorcerer 3D are prime candidates. Those are the ones with the most problems if I recall).
Oh, I remember playing the demo when I was younger. As a dumb little kid, I could never figure out the 2.5 D perspective thing. Maybe now, as a dumb adult, I should give it a try again.
I only played the demo of this for Playstation 1 and I would play it over and over. I always wanted this game, but never got around to playing it. Time for some closure!

grynn: I remember that my 2MB S3 Virge didn't let me play this gem. Now I can play! Haha you wicked S3 Virge!
Was just about to post something similar about my Diamond Viper 2000, could't handle this game either, it was a 2MB card aswell
I would totally buy this, if I didn't still own a copy for my playstation. Still its awesome to see this game released here!
