There’s Pandemonium in the crowds!

When a young sorceress, a court jester, and a demented stick-puppet get hold of the ancient wizard spellbook titled "Ancient Wizards Spellbook", use of which "May result in danger and death", you can expect Pandemonium on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Pandemonium is a 2,5D platform game: the player can move in two dimensions but in a full 3D environment, which is displayed from all types of perspectives and angles to give the game a dynamic look. Before each level, player can select a character: the sorceress Nikki who can double-jump, or Fargus the joker, who can deliver a special spinning attack by throwing his talking stick-puppet called Sid. Later, you'll also gain access to fireballs or shrink- and freeze-rays. Apart from that, you can expect everything you remember from ‘90s platformers: many difficult levels, incredibly impressive boss-fights, collecting coins and hidden prizes, and a ceaseless wave of enemies.

Pandemonium came out in the heyday of platformers, in the times of Crash Bandicoot, Earthworm Jim, Jazz Jackrabit, and Gex--which was developed by the creators of Pandemonium. It was a time when gaming was simple but challenging and brilliantly entertaining. And that’s what Pandemonium is: plain good platforming fun that, thanks to 3D graphics and camera movement, is also a fast-paced vertigo-inducing romp.

Pandemonium is top-notch old-school platforming for only $5.99 only on GOG.com.

SLP2000: Never heard about it.

photoleia: I haven't heard of either of today's releases. They look fascinating though :)
Not heard of either release also, but both look neat. Consider each game to be wishlisted on a list of 200+ games to be bought. :P
Holy shit, fucking Pandemonium. What a left-field release. I never played this but I know it generally considered horrible on Playstation. I'll watch a youtube vid.

It is? from what little reviews I can still dig up from that era EGM gave it a three man review score of 8.3 out of 10 and some PSX mag called Absolute playstation gave it a 8.5 out of 10 and on Gamerankings it got a overall 70.6 but that was due to IGN giving it a 6 and Gamespot giving it a 5.4 so take that as what you will.

But for the most part most of the "user" reviews I can find are generally positive about the game.

Early PS1 hype might be a thing there... I dunno. I remember vividly the consensus being that it was terrible. Who knows though!

Well the Gamespot and IGN reviews read like their main issues were that the game wasn't like Crash Bandicoot or a Mario 64.
Hmm I remember absolutely hating this, but a lot of people here seem to like it.
Maybe I should give it another chance sometime.
Huh, didn't know Pandemonium had a PC release. Nice game, although I liked the sequel more.
This game came with my Hercules Stingray 128 3d, a Voodoo Rush chipset (and what a crappy chipset it was). I tried it out but it didn't stay around too long, either because the controls sucked or I sucked (more likely the latter). Regardless, I seem to remember it being a rather unforgiving game. That said, I'm interested in giving it a try again. Wishlist...

What consensus? I never knew Pandemonium had a reputation as a bad game...I played this thing obsessively back on the PS1. A fun platformer IMO.

It was quite difficult at times, perhaps this is where it got its reputation?

I forgot we were releasing this game! I used to love it back on the PS1, still have it too. Couldn't stand the final boss but would definitely recommend it to any platformer fans.
I remember Pandemonium. A pretty different platformer at the time. The (sort of) 2.5D perspective was novel, and took some getting used to, but as I recall it was a pretty solid game.

A new blue! Who are you and what is your job? Will we be asking you questions often? When did you start working at GOG.com? Why haven't you introduced yourself yet?
Welcome to the forums btw, hope we won't scare you (much).

Nor change the "New User" part, but he posted over an hour ago. Time to start the questions I'd say, keeps them on their toes. :P
I've played this game a long time ago, but I think it was only a demo/shareware version. I'll definitely take a second look when I find the time (or a discount wink wink).
