Opus Magnum is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% discount until February 7, 2PM UTC.
Alchemy is an esoteric science that fuses artistry with practical engineering in fascinating ways. Anataeus Vaya is a master in the field but when dark secrets start crawling out of the woodwork, he must face the ultimate puzzle: how to assemble and modify his transmutation devices to prepare miraculous concoctions in the fastest, most efficient manner possible. Tick tock, Anataeus. Tick tock.

Spectre: It would be interesting to see the sales figures to see if it tallies with the outcry of it not being here.
...why would you think it will? Forum users a minority, people who complained are a vstly lesser subset. We weren't complaining because GOG was missing out on the business deal of the century, we were complaining because we're forum users and show up here regularly to buy new games at GOG's recommendation, and an initial rejection reflected badly on GOG's ability to deliver.

Will all these people who were holding out for a DRM-free version instabuy it here? Most likely not, it's also on humble.

SeduceMePlz: I suppose the hypocrites will be happy, the ones who support heavy curation except when it bites them in the ass.
...since this is a release thread for an awesome game, instead of swearing, I just might hypothesize Opus Magnum night not be a game for you, intellectually. I'd rather GOG make infrequent mistakes and go seek out awesome games elsewhere because the uproar made me aware of them than sort through terabytes of fetish porn and licensed assets and give up.

Well I imagine GOG lost a lot of sales to Humble. That's what happens when you're late to the party because you rejected the invitation for inexplicable reasons.

adaliabooks: You kind of have to wonder if it was ever even rejected in the first place...

Nice to see it here though, I'll probably get it at some point.
What, you think that it was delayed for over a month as a marketing stunt?

Calar: Bummer, as the news came that it won't be released on GOG i bought it on Steam...
Anyway, fascinating game, and easier to get into than previous Zachatronics games.
You didn't even have to buy it on Steam, Humble had a DRM-free version on day one.

amok: In most of his games you are looking for the solution, but in this one your have unlimited resources and area to work with so you are working towards a solution instead. So you are free to be as horrible you want. as long as you make the correct outputs, which in most levels are easier then first thought. To what extent you want to go to improve and maximize efficiency is then up to you.
I'd disagree. The "finding a solution is easy but then you spend time improving the efficiency" was present in both Spacechem and Infinifactory, especially the latter. It was what made Zachtronics games stand out. Haven't played TIS and Shenzen I/O yet.
Well, we all freaked out about nothing.

Purchased.

Yeah, as Starmaker noted, most people don't bother to complain or even post on forums, so I think the sales numbers will likely far exceed the number who complained - and fairly quickly.

I'd be happy to.
But make it few months.

I'm playing Zachtronic games in release order. TIS is next, then Shenzen.

Oh, great, they accept crap like this but they rejected Opus Magnum???

Ooh, I love Mad Libs! Let's see...
"Well flick my aardvarks, instabuy."
EDIT: Goddamn italics closing tags, always butting in where they're not wanted...

Fair enough. I'll get started on Spacechem!

I'm actually wondering if there wasn't simply more to the story. Zachtronics kind of made it sound like the rejection was solely "LOL, looks like a mobile game", but there was probably more to it. (Leaving aside the fact that that was, indeed, a bullshit excuse in this case.)

Sory for you but GOG deserved that lost sale to be honest. The pure fact that it is released now for me shows that they made a mistake by rejecting it first. As much as I love GOG but if "you" make a mistake you will have to love with the consequences and imo they deserve the lost sales of people who bought it elsewhere after GOG again and again confirmed that they rejected the game ... for whatever reason we weill never be able to tell for real.

I think it just as possible the opposite will be true -- that the stridence of people up in arms about its earlier rejection overrepresented the number of people who would be willing to buy it here on release, especially once they released it DRM-free elsewhere.
avatar
Zoidberg: Cool to see this here although their previous games spooked me through their complexity. :P

But it's interesting as it is différent.
avatar
amok: Jokes aside, though. it is the easiest and most accessible of Zachatronics games.
Hahaha no. It has Sigmar's Garden, I'm stuck dead there, it's much more vicious and insidious than Shenzhen Solitaire.
So... shiny... must... click...

yogsloth: Well, we all freaked out about nothing.
I have no doubt that this is a direct consequence of the freak out. This isn't just late, it's a u-turn on a game they had previously passed on.
