Mr.Mumbles: That's probably due to:
1) It requires a lot of code-wrangling to make sure that all the various systems properly interact with one another
2) There are so many ways for game to break in (not so) glorious fashion with so many moving parts and unintended consequences
3) Handling all those physics calculations on the fly requires a ton of hardware resources

Loger13: But such games exist. For example Red Faction or SW TFU (Some concepts - DMM+Havok), Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (slicing), Alone in the Dark (2008) (fire, liquid, physics simulation).
Absolute interactivity is still technically complex, but the current state of the gaming industry is very far from even what is already possible.
You could go even further back to when Worms came out in the mid 90s and you could blast holes in the scenery like this game.
The "every pixel is simulated" concept reminds me of the old, venerable, German shareware games in the Clonk series =) there, every pixel has been simulated since the very first part in 1994! Less complex, of course, also since it wasn't the prime gimmick of the games; it was just the way it allowed players to dig around, restructure and build on the landscapes. But some things seem very similar in concept. Rain was water pixels dripping down, filling up lakes, turning to ice pixels in winter, on top of which then falling snow pixels pile up, or acid pixels dig into… lots of fun!

It also meant that getting a decent Internet multiplayer game running at reasonable speeds was practically impossible for much of the series' lifetime, since all those simulated pixels had to be synchronised across all clients…

Not to rain on this game's parade, of course, it looks cool as well! Just wanted to share the memory, in case anyone else remembers, or someone is interested enough to have a look at a casually recommended Shareware classic. (If you are: all games have been made Freeware since, the community is still active thanks to its incredible modability, the official website is clonk.de, and there is an open-source continuation called OpenClonk!)

Thank you for having this on GOG. Seems like the perfect marriage of Powder game simulation with a roguelike.
