The final step in the Darwinians’ evolution--war.

Multiwinia, a multiplayer-oriented real-time strategy game from the creators of Darwinia and DEFCON, is available right now on GOG.com for only $4.99.

You probably remember the inhabitants of Darwinia--flat, artificially intelligent polygons who were supposed to build a utopian AI society. Well, they ‘were’. Now, they like to call themselves Mutliwinians, because they’ve divided themselves into tribes that fight over the limited resources of a once-peaceful world.

Multiwinia is all about multiplayer battles--quick, simple, and entertaining. Whether you’re stacked against friends or a computer, there’s plenty of game modes, scenarios, and strategic depth to keep you occupied for days to come. The graphics may be minimalistic (like with all Introversion games) but the gameplay is always set to maximum. It’s a stylistic choice with an aim to never ever have you distracted from the great gameplay. Best of all, you can enjoy the short battles in Multiwinia during your lunch-break or between classes, preferably with friends.

Multiwinia, a simple and entertaining strategic romp, is available for the next 7 days for a mere $4.99.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 06:59 PM EDT.
Oh, this can be played single-player? I thought Multiwinia was strictly multi-player. Well, I think i'll pick this one, Darwinia and Uplink up later today.
Awesome, now people can completely ignore this game on yet another portal. :p

Hayden: It's strictly a skirmish game, but there are AI opponents.

Here's a quote:
"The game finally shipped on PC (on sale on our website, on Steam, and in the UK high-street through Pinnacle) and we celebrated with a launch party at our house. Tom had always fantasised about building a sales counter that would sit in the corner of the office and tick up whenever we sold a copy of a game. This time around he actually did it, building the device out of second hand parts bought from Ebay and writing custom driver software for it that linked directly to our Multiwinia sales counter. During our launch party dinner and celebrations that evening, what was truly amazing about this counter was how little it was actually going up. I’m not kidding when I say that we actually checked the connections and the software several times to make sure it was actually working, only to find out it was. Even then that very night we knew it was bad, that our whole future was in doubt. "
Wow, didn't know that this game was such a failure. But honestly? I'm not surprised. Calling this thing Multiwina was a huge mistake in the first place - personally I avoided it because I wasn't ever sure if it's actually playble offline. Will probably pick it up sooner or later as I loved the original Darwinia.

While it may have played a part, as far as I understand their XBLA version of Darwinia is what really did them in. They spent a lot of time and effort on it, and then nobody bought it. Talk about a burn.

It IS playable offline. And it's a great game, if you liked Darwinia, you'll like this one too.
Why the fuck does this thread have only 6(now 7) posts? The game is AWESOME! And again, you can play it offline. It even says on the gamecard "single player/multiplayer".

Maybe GOG was a little too slow to catch this...

The game is already available for a long time in others stores, and even was available in bundles (introversion bundle i think) and so on...
But it's still nice to have here! ;p

Even so, it's still a good game, and i'm disappointed of how little attention it's getting:( it doesn't even have a review yet :(
Ok, i just wrote a short review, just so the game can have one...

That's what you get for spending more time on building a fancy sales gizmo than on your actual product.
