X-com: You did get it before it was removed though right?
Sure did. But thanks anyway for pointing out that there's still the occasional key up for grabs.

I'd love to see these games return here, though. Maybe add DNForever to the mix as well, especially considering both 2K and Gearbox are releasing their stuff on gog now.
Is the campaign complete or is some of it hidden away behind the DLC?

The DLCs do not affect campaign at all. 2 expand multiplayer/skirmish by adding additional factions, one is aseparate application providing information game story/background.

Sabin_Stargem: Is Deserts of Kharak completely finished? I only get games when they achieve their final form.

i_ni: Yes - Devs dropped dead, probably because sales haven't met expectations.
(check Steam page&discussions)
Hardly. Blackbird have always been terrible at communication and updates, back from the days the game was called Hardware. No evidence of them dying.

As for the game. I would consider it complete, I don't see BBI updating it again.

The Mac version is missing for this game and the Remastered Collection. Both are available on Steam.
I just read in a review, no 'pause & play'. Can someone confirm this?
Is there a single player skirmish and how good is it?
And I am also curious if there is a "active pause"...?
Thanks in advance.

haydenaurion: So how is this one compared to the rest of HW? I've never played either.

Afraid not, never had the pc to play the others back in the day and i've had my attention taken up by other games of late, though I have the gog versions bought and ready to go.

I find it amazing how often this comes up. DoK is a RTS game like Command & Conquer, Act of War, Supreme Command or StarCraft. None of them have tactical pause, yet so many complain about its lack in Deserts of Kharak. It's not even a particularly fast game... Why does DoK have to have a tactical pause but the others do not? The real-time pressure and the ability to quickly and spontaneously react to new situations is part of the game play dynamic in RTS games. To me that's a bit like complaining that Dirt Rally does not have a bullet-time mode. I just don't get it (I mean I do get why people want that feature; just not why DoK in particular has to have it).

Anyway to answer your question: No it does not have a "pause & play" feature.

If you're interested in the game you should give it a try anyway though. As I said it's not really a fast game and units have quite a large selection area around them. The options menu even has an entry to display units bigger than they actually are when zoomed out. So if you fancy the scenario it's a very good RTS game with amazing atmosphere. The only real complaint I have about it is its lack of unit variations.

It does have single player skirmish, but once you know how the game works the AI is not that challenging. I like it, but very competitive people will probably get bored by it rather quickly. You can of course increase the challenge by playing against more AIs. The map selection pool could also be bigger. But the maps that are there are rather varied and enjoyable.

If you enjoy RTS, and I presume you do considering your avatar ;), you should give them a spin. I've not played Cataclysm yet myself but HW is excellent and HW2 is very good.

gogcoon: Why does DoK have to have a tactical pause but the others do not?
Simply 'cause it carries the Homeworld tag - given you had a pause button in those.
Hmm own in on steam, so you know what that means. I buy it again. See publishers / developers if you put your games on gog you get more sales, even from the same customer!
How short is the campaign?
