The universe is a big, big place. A big place to comprehend, a huge place to traverse, a colossal place conquer. But in Galactic Civilizations, that's just a minor obstacle.
Welcome to your cosmic playground.
What is GalCiv? Take Sid Meier's Civilization, shoot it into space, and multiply by a factor of ridiculous. You see, GalCiv shows an understanding of exactly what makes the space fantasy so irresistible: the scale. Formidable scale, from the mundane day-to-day culture or politics of innumerable living creatures, through nimble fighters dwarfed by the overhanging starships, through distances that reduce our brains to overwhelmed, upset little raisins.
But for a game so incredibly large (Galactic Civilizations III actually supports up to 128 concurrent players), it also manages to ease you in with bite-sized chunks of gameplay that will form your interstellar civilization. In short, it's actually accessible to newcomers.
Huge customizability, great humor, and awe-inspiring scale - become the elected leader, seize your power, or ascend to a higher state of being - the future is yours.

You can also pick up extra content for Galactic Civilizations III including: the Original Soundtrack, Revenge of the Snathi DLC, Mega Events DLC and Map Pack DLC.

Trilarion: but you could adapt to it by increasing the difficulty settings (basically letting the AI cheat a bit to compensate its dumbness
I've heard a similar AI issue with Civ games, where the difficulty increase mostly lets them see a LOT more of the map and go straight for rare and unique resources first. And potentially forming alliances to get rid of you.

IronArcturus: So how does GC2 compare to GC3?

Good video - thanks for pointing it out.

Basically helps me decide - I like both - might just get 'all' of it.. :)
Does anyone know if there is a singleplayer Skirmish mode in either GC2 or GC3?
What about Russian language in GalCiv 3? Steam-version have it.

GC2 offers customizable single-player. Options for galaxy size, star density, rarity of habitable planets, victory conditions, etc.

Don't know about GC3. Hopefully has the same or better.

bioshark: Finally I can buy GalCiv III (I stayed away from it on steam so far).

Now... just to calculate exactly on what position in the queue of games to play should I put it.... (it's definitely not a FILO or FIFO)
Same here. Owned Galciv 2 (and Galciv) from Stardock. Will give it a go here.

About the queue, I try to have no more than one game per genre going at a time... Not that it works perfectly at all... It depends largely on mood and time availability. This year has been tight with free time, so I played mostly comfortable games, easily played in chunks, like Bastion and now Rebel Galaxy, with some foray into Shadowrun and some strategy.

I am already thinking about some more serious classic gaming during the Christmas holidays, inmersion-rich games like The Last Express and Albion.
is GCIII any good?
I got this reply from support regarding GalCiv2 and XP:

Unfortunately we encountered problems with this game during our Windows XP compatibility tests on at least one of our testbeds and haven't been able to find a solution for them. Because of this we cannot guarantee that this game will work flawlessly on Windows XP.
Not very helpful, it could be an issue with specific hardware or driver version, or whatever. Game might or might not work. Anyway, with this and the confusion with the Community Update, I think I'll put this on the wishlist for now.

Well, I played GalCiv 2 on XP and had no problems with it, but I don`t know about this version.

As far as I'm aware, all versions of GalCiv2 prior to GOG release have supported XP. So it's a bit curious why GOG version suddenly wouldn't.

GalCiv 2 originally came out 2006, one year before the release of Virus Vista. At this time XP was nearly the only OS out there, besides some old PCs with Win 98, but games didn`t support Win 98 then. That was also the reason why I changed from 98 to XP, cause there were more and more games that I couldn`t play with 98, although my PC was good enuff to play them.

Maybe its a problem with support.
I mean, microsoft have officially stopped supporting XP.
Gog and game devs dont have the source code or permission to keep supporting XP
though its weird if its a older game coded with xp in mind.
Windows 7 will probably be my last windows OS unless microsoft changes some things i dont like.

Right now I'm on EUIII.

My queue is quite large though. Just to mention a few of them (in no particular order):
- GalCiv III
- Shadowrun
- Van Helsing
- Victoria
- HOI III (Re-play for the N-th time)
- King's Bounty: WotN
- Starpoint Gemini 2
- IWD:EE (Re-play)
- Replay of all Fallouts 1,2,3 & NW
- Fallout 4
- The Witcher 3 (I have pre-purchesed it one year ago and still haven't touched it :(. I'm building a new rig now, so I am hopeful I'll start it soon )
... and the list goes on.

Is there any hope that you will add German language support for GalCiv2 too?

The game has a German version (my DVD version at least has German texts). And GalCiv3 already has German language support here, so it shouldn't be a general problem.

Niggles: is GCIII any good?
If you already know GalCiv2 there's a nice comparison between GalCiv 2 and 3 on youtube. Depending on your preferences you may like GalCiv3 a bit more than GalCiv2 but I'm not sure if it's worth the much higher price.
