The universe is a big, big place. A big place to comprehend, a huge place to traverse, a colossal place conquer. But in Galactic Civilizations, that's just a minor obstacle.
Welcome to your cosmic playground.
What is GalCiv? Take Sid Meier's Civilization, shoot it into space, and multiply by a factor of ridiculous. You see, GalCiv shows an understanding of exactly what makes the space fantasy so irresistible: the scale. Formidable scale, from the mundane day-to-day culture or politics of innumerable living creatures, through nimble fighters dwarfed by the overhanging starships, through distances that reduce our brains to overwhelmed, upset little raisins.
But for a game so incredibly large (Galactic Civilizations III actually supports up to 128 concurrent players), it also manages to ease you in with bite-sized chunks of gameplay that will form your interstellar civilization. In short, it's actually accessible to newcomers.
Huge customizability, great humor, and awe-inspiring scale - become the elected leader, seize your power, or ascend to a higher state of being - the future is yours.

You can also pick up extra content for Galactic Civilizations III including: the Original Soundtrack, Revenge of the Snathi DLC, Mega Events DLC and Map Pack DLC.

For those who bought Gal Civ II- is a Stardock account required to play the game. There is a big stink about it on Steam

I bought Galactic Civilizations 2. I downloaded the game and installing it right now. However, I was reading the Manual meanwhile and noticed that the pages are a little bit weird. There are 2 sides and one side page number is increasing normally while the other is decreasing from 96. Not a big problem but wanted to bring it to attention.

EDIT: The game (GCiv2) works perfectly so far and you dont need any registration or any other kind of DRM.

Finally I can buy GalCiv III (I stayed away from it on steam so far).

Now... just to calculate exactly on what position in the queue of games to play should I put it.... (it's definitely not a FILO or FIFO)

jkiiskinen: Instab ... but wait, what, no XP support in GalCiv2?!
Tried the game under Windows XP, works perfectly.
On a side note: please add Russian language to this game.
More space games is good in my books :-)

I have GalCiv II since years past and played it for some 15-20h, enjoyed it but never went back to it after that first week. Something was lacking.

Really odd requirements listed for GalCiv2 as my boxed copy played just fine on Windows XP.

Thanks for telling this. I made a support ticket about the issue, but didn't get any reply yet. I'll wait and see what they have to say about this before making my final decision whether to buy or not.
It appears that GOG's release of GalCiv2 is different from any other version available. Since when is GOG including community mods with their releases?

Hmm we have less than glamorous views on GC2 which I was considering since it's 75% off; However it's mostly on the AI of all things.

Anyone's thoughts? Anyone recently played it and have their opinions on the game?

It's the only detriment that I personally saw, and there's a mod mentioned in the reviews that fixes this rather perfectly. Much like Space Empires IV's situation, actually.

Yes i saw that; Although if it's a replacement of files or the exe i'm not sure. Depending on the changes to the game in the future (fixes, features, etc) would that break the mod or fighting it vs incorporating it officially?

I'll think about it for a few days, got other games i'm interested in getting as well...

Mods for GalCiv 2 usually don't replace files. Most mods are simply placed in a folder specifically intended for them and then activated within the game.

Also, the mod mentioned in the review is obsolete. The Community Update incorporates all of the fixes from that mod, my own, and more (plus a lot of other changes, some of which I don't agree with). Most importantly, Stardock provided a new game executable which fixes some of the biggest AI problems. In other words, the majority of the complaints against the AI are no longer valid. Some points still stand, but the AI plays now a lot better (and it was already pretty damn good, in my opinion).

The Community Update is included with the GOG release (Stardock intended to incorporate it into the game from the start). However, something went wrong while applying the files, and a majority of the fixes and changes don't work yet. It's easy to fix manually, but you can expect an update in the coming week.
Insta-bought! Been waiting for this ever since GalCiv1 first appeared. THIS made my GOG Gaming Month! :-)

tinyE: For some reason I always get these games confused with Imperium Galactica. :P
The day either the original or IG2 appear those are insta-bought as well. Those two hold a special place in my heart: They were the very first ever space 4x games I played. It was only later that I learned about or even tried MOO2.

I saw that, and that makes no sense to me. I bought all three when they first came out and they work fine on XP, both 32 and 64-bit versions.

Edit: To clarify, I am talking about the original versions. It will be some time before I am able to download
the GOG version and test it on my XP machine.
