First Encounter Assault Recon

F.E.A.R. Platinum, an award winning FPS horror, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount!

F.E.A.R. Platinum, is simultaneously described as one of the best designed first person shooters ever, and one of the eeriest horror games around. That's quite the combo. The FPS elements in F.E.A.R. Platinum remain exemplary even to this day, with A.I. that's willing to mercilessly out-flank and outmaneuver you, making each and every encounter an intense fight of who can turn the tables on whom. But combat is just half of this story, the second half is atmosphere - thick enough that you can slice it with a knife. This is a game of anticipation and fear of the unknown. It's downtime between combat encounters that will really get your heart pounding. As you wander the disconcertingly empty office halls and basements… something peculiar follows.

The Platinum package includes the base game, as well as the Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansions.

Become a highly-trained hunter of the supernatural in F.E.A.R. Platinum, available now, DRM-free, on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, February 19, at 1:59 PM GMT.

TWITCH STREAM SPECIAL
The one and only TotalBiscuit will be streaming the game live on twitch.tv/gogcom!

Will he be terrified of F.E.A.R. itself? Spend your evening with the cynical brit and soak in his always-unique perspective on Monday, February 16 at 9pm GMT / 4pm EST / 1pm PST.

Ghostfromthepast: Finally!!

I guess it is a good time to re-watch this: P.A.N.I.C.S
On that note, F.E.A.R. multiplayer when? I wasn't around when the servers were up, but apparently it was absurdly good.

pigdog: - Is the original FEAR likely to disappoint if I've played 2 and 3?
The original game was the best of the series. Everything went downhill after that.

Apparently at the very least FEAR Combat is still working - http://www.fearcombat.org/

Would be nice to see FEAR Combat be officially supported on GOG.com as a stand-alone free game or as an extra with the game.
I JUST bought this on Steam. Does the Multiplayer server download work with it? I know it works on Steam

11.20pm and I'm still chasing #-)

- If anyone has played them all, in which order would you say is the easiest to most difficult in the series?

- The Witcher 2, Two Worlds 2 and Divinity 2 was too choppy and therefore unplayable on my laptop - is this likely to do the same?

- Why did I just have a coffee at this time of night?

DreamedArtist: fear 1 had the scary factor at hand compare to the other 2 but 2 imo had the best controls and gun action fear 1 had some odd lag between bullet animation and sound and recoil but it was a really not talk by many or noticed much, But hell for 5$ take that its a great game even with all 2 expansions added :)
Thanks and bought. $5 is a steal. Problem is...it's yet another $5. Damn those GOG people :)

F.E.A.R. 1 has best horror elements and scary factor but quite dated combat mechanics. F.E.A.R. 2 has best story narrative and chapter like design of campaign, a lot harder, has real collectibles and internal achievements however scary factor suffered because instead of subtle mood and horror vision they chosen jump scenes and blood, gore instead of suspension and some things to your imagination. In F.E.A.R. 3 we have best gun-play and combat mechanics but at tthe cost of too subtle to be effective scares, also less chapters (8, original has 11 and sequel 14), also has awesome Fettel gameplay but it was criticized for video movies instead of cutscenes based on engine.
lol! So true.
Rather excited to delve into this game. Thanks to the guys at GOG. Peculiarly, I was talking to my brother about this game on here about a week ago. Freaky.

Now they just need MoH: Pacific Assault, Airborne, and some Quake games and we'll be all set.

Maybe some CoD games, Vietcong, Hidden and Dangerous, Delta Force, ... Maybe we have a little ways to go still. But, still, this is awesome!

Despite my initial impressions of it, I actually enjoyed FEAR 3 a lot. I thought it was just a great action game, instead of a horror game. I did find it gross a lot, but liked it a lot anyway.

Neither part of the series can be defined as horror, just movie like shooter with horror elements. The only true horror game released by Monolith is first Condemned: Criminal Origins. In case of F.E.A.R. it's careful balance of all elements and that's reason of it's popularity. Expansion Packs introduced some areas first that resolved later in Project Origin like caves, clone factory, medical lab, ruined city, metro station etc. Perseus Mandate also have 3 bonus missions after game is completed but I'm not biggest fan of it (no save in middle).

F.E.A.R. 3 is annoying too because one more thing... unpredictable drop-outs in MP, and besides that, still do-able to max everything.
I love how monolith coded a futureproof engine. Supports resolutions up to 4k and more then 60fps without editing cfg files or any of that stuff. So glad to have this game DRM free now

Well, they did have to code the resolution support in later but at least they did!
To bad that this version is English only.... ¬¬

At least, the people at gog patched the game so it can run properly on modern hardware... Steam NEVER do that.. They don't care if the game works or not.. Hurra for GOG.

This game works fine on Steam.
Also, it's my understanding that EP and PM were decided to not be canonical?
