F-16 Fighting Falcon

Falcon Collection, a retro flight sim anthology, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com - with a 40% launch discount on the Weekend Promo: Retro Mishmash.

Falcon was a game changer. Realism was the name of the game, and Falcon did things that have never been done before. Realistic simulated physics, a detailed, first-person cockpit view, and a ridiculous manual. Starting from Falcon in 1987, through Falcon A.T. and Falcon 3.0 - each release brought us closer to the very real flight experience.
Among the games' goodies, you'll also find a bonus as-is copy of Falcon 4.0, but also the "Art of the Kill" instructional video & PDF - a very real lesson, by a very real F-16 pilot, on how to tame the supersonic arsenal. Simulation mechanics are one thing, the spirit of flight is another - and the foreword says it all:
"Art of the Kill has been designed to teach you the fundamentals of Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM). As the name implies, BFM is the cornerstone of tactical fighter aviation. Since its principles are rooted in the laws of physics, geometry and aerodynamics, they are non-negotiable and cannot be finessed."
Badass.

Take to the skies in the extremely realistic Falcon Collection now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Long live the king of flight sims!

Can someone confirm that the GOG bonus version of Falcon 4.0 1.08 works with BMS.

haydenaurion: Damn, that looks hype.

What are the recommended system requirements to run that?

It does work.

Vythonaut: OMG! What an awesome release!!!!!!!!!

Falcon 4.0 is still my go-to modern flight sim, basically the BMS version. And Microprose (the developers of 4.0) are still one of my favourite devs of all time.

It would be a little off-topic in the release of a flight simulator, but consider voting this:

Smannesman: But those graphics are like scrubbing my eyes with a stainless steel sponge.

Vythonaut: Falcon 4.0 will suit you better.
They should really add at least one screenshot of the nice-looking one.
I normally do not touch anything with CGA graphics but I'm going to make an exception. The description mention a "ridiculous manual" for the first one but it does not seem to be in the goodies on the game page, it's not included?
Wow what a blast from the past! I had totally forgot about this game but those screenies brought the memories flooding back in to my noggin, ravaged by time.

GOG's been killing it with the retro releases of late, great stuff to see and hopefully it'll continue!

They are all nice looking ones. The first one was out of this world when it first arrived.
Old flight sims are not my cup of tea but it's good to see at least one classic release this week. :D

Niggles: Well nice for some people :) (not into flight sims myself).
I've never been huge on flight sims either. I'd make a better kamikaze pilot especially with my landings. I don't think I ever landed a plane without fatality.

If only every game development life cycle were so simple :)

Telika: A trademark gog "mods highlights" page would do the trick.
When I get back home from work later, I'll make a list of mods/ theaters to help anyone who wants more variety. Although I believe that the Korean theatre should be more than enough for someone who starts learning Falcon BMS. And oh boy, there are so much stuff to learn about!
bms and falcon history links were dropped. nothing left to do.
oh yeah, perhaps this: if you want to have people to play with (german group), try http://www.1stguns.de/members.html . i don't know if they still play falcon though.

Excellent work GOG, I wish you best of sales on this one. :)

And of course nice to see Retroism again; hope to see their Steam'd games here (perhaps you can bundle some similar ones together at 9.99 price points, like you did with Pajama Sam).

Do not be afraid; in most flight sims you can change the difficulty by tweaking options such as collision detection, unlimited fuel, unlimited bullets/ missiles, blackouts/ redouts and many more. Although a WWII sim like the great IL-2 Sturmovik should be a better school than any modern (and more complex) fighter jet sim.

So the short and narrow of it is that you have a licence to distribute Falcon 4.0 - which won't work on modern PCs at all - but not the source ports - which are needed to get it running?
