Maxvorstadt: You find the serial number when you look into your library!

Grargar: Does it have only one serial, or does it have a second one for the DLC?
Afaik there is only one SN!

Do you have the game on GOG or from somewhere else? If you have it on GOG, do you also have the DLC for it?

Thanks, good to know. :)
Just something to note, just like with Soldak's other games a contract/quest should be considered a means to end rather than an end in itself.

If you try to do things by simply taking contracts/quests then things are probably going to end up being very slow going, very repetitive, and very frustrating. I see way too many players fall into that trap partly due to "conditioning" from other games.
Quests/contracts in Soldak games don't always represent the best way to accomplish something. A lot of them are going to be sub-optimal or outright useless.

I feel like this applies even more strongly in Drox Operative than in Din's Curse because of how much more open ended the game is.

As as a rule of thumb, if it's taking too long or if you are having to grind excessively to get something done, then you should probably step back and reconsider what you are doing.
There's a very good chance there's a much faster and more efficient way to do it that isn't quite obvious at first.
Damn, I just bought Drox + DLC and two games of the Square Enix promo. Although I still have to many games in my backlog, I buy even more. I'm so fucking dumb and weak. No discipline...
Followup: Is the multiplayer Internet-only, or does it LAN? (Assuming it's included at all.)

Niggles: Interesting.
Any comments on the DLC?. - is it worth it? required?. Looking at the base game right now....

rampancy: I'd only recommend the DLC, if, like me, you wind up viciously addicted to the game play and crave more, or, if you found the core game too easy and want a greater challenge. I bought IOTA on release and it made an already challenging game (especially once you get to the higher levels) really nasty, since (obviously) those pesky Ancients are now full in-game factions. Not only that, but you can't make peace with them or ally with them in the same way you can regular factions -- they're out for blood right from the get-go.
Ah I just bought both. given that advice I will make sure when I play I go without the DLC initially before I make things too hard on myself. Thanks for that.

Alternately, there are reasons why you may want to also play with the DLC:

- playable subfactions: these haven't been covered yet in the player guides put up on the Steam forums, but they're good to toy around with, especially since there are some interesting outfits that are subfaction-speciic
- socketable items: like Diablo, you can upgrade certain outfits with chips you'll find, either on planets or as item drops

To clarify further with respect to Ancient factions: if you're after a Military Win, you can't stick with an Ancient faction, since you can't ally with an Ancient. This means that you'll either have to (a) placate them into not declaring war on you by doing missions for them (not a bad thing, as they'll still pay you), or (b) crush them underfoot. :) On the whole, the Ancients can be slower in expanding their territory compared to other factions, so if you're lucky, you can catch them with only one isolated planet with limited defensive ships.

Additionally, by the time you've built yourself up to a point where you can take on the Ancients, you may have already earned a Fear or Legendary Win, from all of the ships you've killed (which is what's happened to me on several occasions).

Adding on to that, the expansion also adds progression between sectors. Your starting relations with each of the races will be influenced by your relations with them in previous sectors, so if you went to war with them in the last sector, your relations with them will start out poor in the new sector. Additionally, if a race is eliminated enough times, it can go extinct in the galaxy and they will no longer be in the pool of potential starting races.

It's probably my favorite part of the expansion.
This also doesn't have a main storyline like Din's Curse right?

The story is like this:
"We are Drox and resistance is futile!".

I started a game using the "Start Local Server" button (Not the "Start Internet Server" button which is also in the game). Then I had the ports DNATed listed on http://www.soldak.com/Drox-Operative/Manual.html (26503 through 26508). Then a friend of mine could join using the button "Join per IP". And it worked. So, its safe to answer your question with a yes. Only thing he had to do is set the client tickrate the same as the server has (both ingame options) so I relative to him move smoothly.
It's a blast to play cooperatively.
A dream of mine is this game, but also with ground missions in like in that old "Planet's Edge" game :-)
