A cabin in the woods, how charming!

Don't Starve, a wilderness survival sandbox game with many original ideas, item crafting, and remarkable visuals, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $11.99 for the first two weeks!

Don't Starve is a game focusing on your wilderness survival skill. Cast in the middle of unwelcoming wild you will need to learn to take care of yourself without all the commodities and luxuries that our civilization provides. It's back to the basics! You need to gather supplies, hunt, avoid dangers, and learn how to make a living in the harsh realm that became your new home. When you're alone in the woods death can come to you in many different ways. A simple cut might prove to be just as dangerous as a forest fire. But your most lethal and persistent enemy is hunger. What am I going to eat today--that's going to be your first thought every day. You might be reduced to gnawing on tree-bark, but whatever it takes: Don't Starve. Who knows, if you live long enough, you might even discover the dark secrets, hidden away from human sight, where no man dares to go.

Get your basic survival gear and a one-way ticket to the middle of nowhere, for only $11.99 on GOG.com, and once you get there remember: Don't Starve! The release special offer lasts for two weeks, that is until Tuesday, May 7, at 12:59AM GMT.

Robette: I think it is partially to the game already having been on the to be released list. It was simply a bit of a spoiled surprise. I was curious for novelty.
avatar
Bloodygoodgames: Agree with that.

I don't really understand why GOG is putting games like this on the 'To Be Released' List before they're released. IMO, it spoils the fun of guessing what's coming next and it's not as if there was a pre-order offer for this. Wish they wouldn't.
I see what you mean, but I'm actually glad they did it this time, otherwise I'd have bought the game at the Humble Store.

Licurg: This looks good, but how does it play ? Also, is this an actual horror game ? Because the screenshots look more like a horror parody...

DCT: It's not a horror game, it's a survival sandbox with a optional"adventure mode" which is accessed from within sandbox by a special door and your are pitted against 6 increasingly difficult worlds and have to survive and escape each one, so one world is in constant winter, another may have you in a constant state of insanity, and so on. but luckily if you die in adventure mode you just go back to your survival world. but the game itself is one of those games where it's hard at first but you get better at it the more you play as you learn the best ways to defend yourself, the best hunting methods, what to avoid, how best to prepare for winter and so on.

I personally enjoyed it, oh and for those getting the game there are different characters you can unlock with different pros and the occasional con like one starts with a sword but is more frail and thus can't take as much of a beating, another is slower but stronger, and other will start fires at night but those fires can get out of control, and so on. Most are unlocked as you progress save 2 who are unlocked by playing adventure mode and "rescuing" them

Oh and a friendly tips 1. don't over hunt non hostile animals these include beefalo, rabbits, and Pigmen, well you could but I wouldn't recommend it, same with over doing it on taking down trees try to plant at least one tree for every two you chop down... 2. Winter hits for the first time randomly between days 20 to 30 so try to prepare
Soooo...Winter is coming?

BOOYEAH! I never thought I'd get that reference in so well!

I am so getting this, I wanted to get it when I saw it on Steam, but I am so glad I waited. Thank you GOG for bringing this gem to the site!

JMich: Well, if you see the reactions in the survey threads, they all predict doom in GOG's future. ;)

SCPM: Doom confirmed! :D
Great! Which Doom would that be? The original? Hell on Earth? Doom 3?

Gazoinks: The novels.
That's interesting. I don't remember GOG asking my permission to start selling novels.

That raises an interesting question:
Can I buy just one copy of the novel(s) and place it on each and every one of the nine bookcases I have at home? Clarification: I legally own all the bookcases, except for a few shelves that are the property of my wife.

tfishell: Probably a good game, but hoping for a pre-2005 release this Thursday.
Seconded.

zeffyr: 1. No soundtrack this time?

Not much GOG can do to bring the full soundtrack without raising the price in this case. Maybe a few demo tracks.

Because it's available in several other places already. If people who'd prefer a GOG version of a game have no idea that game is coming to GOG in the near future, they may buy it somewhere else instead, only to have it be released on GOG shortly after. This will cost GOG sales, as well as make some people annoyed that they bought it somewhere else.

In short, this is precisely the kind of game they should use the "Coming Soon" section for. Games which aren't available anywhere else can remain surprises, but games which are should definitely be there.

That link does not look like it might be pointing to the soundtrack for Don't Starve. Did you get your threads mixed up?

G-Doc: The keys are only used for automatic updates, but all the updates will also be made available separately here, on GOG.com if you don't want to use the auto-updater.
avatar
LordCinnamon: Seems like pretty much the perfect implementation of an auto-updater+cd key system to me. Optional, available for our convenience.

Isn't this game by the same guys that did Mark of the Ninja? Because that was one of my favorite games of last year. Or, like, ever.
Anxiously awaiting Mark of the Ninja, and then it´s instabuy for me :) Hope it will come bundled with that DLC with adds non-lethal take-downs :)

Ha, yeah my bad. Anyway, my point is still that GOG would presumably have to raise the price of the game to allow for the soundtrack to be bundled (unless the artists would make more money by getting, I don't know, 5% of each game sold rather than trying to sell the OST separately for $5. And the music files may even be in the game folder, like with Hotline Miami).

Look I wasn't singling anyone out but rather making a blanket statement that people will complain no matter what.
But to be fair it is annoying seeing posts like that every time. No offense but It gets old.
Agh... I wish I would've bought off the main site now, instead of steam (I had no idea it'd ever come on here and I had no want of it on Chrome), as I'd own a copy on here now as well. That's what I get for buying at 2 in the morning...

Sadly, I love the game, but not enough to purchase it again.
