A cabin in the woods, how charming!

Don't Starve, a wilderness survival sandbox game with many original ideas, item crafting, and remarkable visuals, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $11.99 for the first two weeks!

Don't Starve is a game focusing on your wilderness survival skill. Cast in the middle of unwelcoming wild you will need to learn to take care of yourself without all the commodities and luxuries that our civilization provides. It's back to the basics! You need to gather supplies, hunt, avoid dangers, and learn how to make a living in the harsh realm that became your new home. When you're alone in the woods death can come to you in many different ways. A simple cut might prove to be just as dangerous as a forest fire. But your most lethal and persistent enemy is hunger. What am I going to eat today--that's going to be your first thought every day. You might be reduced to gnawing on tree-bark, but whatever it takes: Don't Starve. Who knows, if you live long enough, you might even discover the dark secrets, hidden away from human sight, where no man dares to go.

Get your basic survival gear and a one-way ticket to the middle of nowhere, for only $11.99 on GOG.com, and once you get there remember: Don't Starve! The release special offer lasts for two weeks, that is until Tuesday, May 7, at 12:59AM GMT.

Novotnus: Now, with the full release, how does this game work plot-wise?
I know there is an introduction (at least for the inventor character), but does the story move forward once you are on the island? Can you somehow lead your character\s to a happy ending or terrible doom after which the credits roll?
Adventure mode provides a conclusion to the Maxwell storyline, while hinting at what's really going on. The 6 months of post-release updates will add additional story stuff to reveal more.

DCT: meh not starving(well outside of winter) is not that hard it's everything else that get's you..
avatar
Gazoinks: Yeah, it's sort of ironic that starving is one of the lesser concerns of the game. I suppose Don't Get Mauled By Tentacles is less catchy. :P
true, Also Don't get mauled by hounds, Don't Freeze to death, Don't set yourself on fire, Don't go crazy, Don't go after the Deerclops unarmed,Don't forget to make a fire at night or the grues will get you, Don't whiz on the electric fence and so on don't have the same ring to it either.

Man there are so many way to die, maybe someone should make a Dumb Ways to die parody for the game.

All right... where is my wallet? :)
Just out of curiosity, does the other characters also have their storylines?
Sorry GOG, another game I will buy from Steam or maybe a Humble Bundle because of Linux support...

Somewhat, you stuck on the you will find a door that will take you to Adventure mode where Maxwell will pit you against 6 increasingly difficult worlds basically taunting you to come find him on the final world, then well I won't spoil it but it ends on a bit of a cliff hanger which will be resolved in later content updates.

Not yet, maybe in later updates I know the last unlockable character should have one

Sort of. The devs have essentially stated that at the moment Wilson (the scientist) is the only canon character. However, if they have the time and resources they'd like to add an origin video and story details for everyone else. That being said, for the most part the only thing that really marks Wilson as canon is his unique video (and sort of fitting well being opposed to Maxwell).

My dumbest way might be the first time I survived winter. I was all ecstatic at making it through winter and surviving a Deerclops attack. I was feeling confident and powerful so I went to fight some spiders, got swarmed, and died. -_-

Ah yeh, I've wanted this game since I first saw it on Steam. Now I like Steam well enough, but I kept thinking, "A good-quality indie game likes this seems to be would fit in well on GOG; I should wait and see." And now here we are!
Probably a good game, but hoping for a pre-2005 release this Thursday.

keeveek: damn those bastards...
Didn't the last GOG video mention something about everything doubled times two or whatever? Either GOG is trolling us or something else is coming on a different than usual schedule. My money is on something else coming out.

Thank you, now I want the game. Seriously, you are evil. Yes, you. Why did so many good games have to come out lately? I DON'T HAVE TIME

The Tuesday old, Thursday new schedule seems to be totally informal policy; for the moment, I'd assume that we're still getting an old release this week, on Thursday instead of Tuesday.

The hint is for a classic release, probably thursday..

I'm guessing a sequel to something that combines RPG-RTS-FPS-Point'n'Click-SHMUP, but I still could not get the damn name...

Yes, that's basically what I meant.
