Pioneers. Mercenaries. Killers.

Deadnaut a squad-based survival game, is available now for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux - DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% discount.

So named because they're unlikely to return. Deadnaut is a game of tactics, fear, and survival - you're in command of a small squad of Deadnauts as they explore and battle their way through derelict shells of formerly glorious alien starships. Though you'll be commandeering from afar, Deadnaut is technically a first person game: you're watching events unfold from the relative safety of your command center. Lo-fi displays will be your eyes as you give out commands and flip switches. Your ears will be the hazy field reports of terrified blips struggling to describe the unknown. The Deadnauts' life expectancy is short, but each playthrough will be different enough to keep you expecting the unexpected. Deadnaut is a game with a unique understanding of how to tell a story through gameplay and minimalism.

Hope you don't have plans for after, you're a Deadnaut now. Available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last for one week, until Wednesday, March 18, at 10:59 AM GMT.

mintee: Iwould be more interested in watching one of gogs resident twitch recorders do a play thru of this

Ixamyakxim: Good call! I'll be keeping an eye on the Twitch schedule just in case.
honestly, I think it would spoil the game - a good part of it / part of the enjiyment of it is figuring out things yourself.

Ixamyakxim: This looks REALLY cool!

Can anyone give an idea of the gameplay loop?
There is a demo you can try, someone posted it in this thread but you can also just go to the developers page.

I'm usually pretty good about this (This War of Mine is a game that looked really promising to me, so I watched a very little bit of the Twitch just to "see if it was what I thought it was") I almost immediately pulled out when I realized it was something I'd enjoy, for this very reason!

I'd probably do the same with this one. Check out a few minutes of the stream, maybe jump back for another minute or two about a half hour / hour into it, then *poof* gone. I do like to figure stuff out on my own, so I'm actually glad you let me know in advance that it plays a big part in this game (I wouldn't have quite guessed that from the description and screenshots so it's good to know).

Ooooh awesome good to know I'll be trying that out (official demo yes? Not some shady site demo?).

*EDIT Nevermind - just reread your post and saw the devs have it up! Thanks!

It was cyboff that brought it to my attention, demos are so rare these days that I don't even check anymore :P
But it really helped me by confirming it was not for me.
The switchable panel on the left side of the cockpit weirded me out a bit btw.
The interface seems quite off-putting. For some reason, I can't help but think that this would probably be much more enjoyable to play in the engine from There Came An Echo.
"Deadnauts, so named because they’re unlikely to return, must explore, investigate and fight their way through the derelict ships of dead civilisations...." - INSTABUY :D

Though that was a copy paste...might want to fix the spelling of civilizations on the game card ;)

Likewise!

Already pulled it, and it's small enough to carry around with me LOL. I might give this a quick shot tonight to see what I think.

I just lost my dog to sudden heart cancer during already tough times...this just hits me hard :(

Now I need a good comedy to get my mind off of it

YES! *fist pump* I wasn't so sure this was coming to GOG anymore, but I'm glad to see it did. Played the demo of it a fair bit last November, and it didn't disappoint. Instabuy!
I liked the demo, it's different somehow. The interface is interesting.
I will tell you it has a simply interface.
But will will kill your crew to easy at times.
Deadnuats is VERY luck based at times in my limited experience.
And I prefer, some thing you can take strategy too.

So, I NOT recommend this one.

Some of the bad npc can spawn or get behind you even if you close doors and destroy spawning points.
