Dark Devotion is now available DRM-free.

The sanctity of this place has been fouled... Generations of devout Templars who've committed atrocious acts in the name of their faith, find their end inside this fallen temple. Seek salvation and stumble upon terrible truths as you destroy ancient fiends, wield epic weapons, fight off curses, and venture ever deeper into this accursed place.
Hope it plays better than Death Gambit. Will wait for reviews.

Pyromancer138: No achievements, what a surprise.
I was thinking of buying it today but now I do not know what to do.
Achievements are meaningless without a reward. Buy the game.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: They don't 'trump' DRM-free. This game on GOG should have both DRM-free and Achievements, given that the Steam version has Achievements. GOG customers shouldn't be treated like second-class citizens by constantly receiving featured-removed versions that lack parity with the identical games on Steam.
This is not true though. Games here are drm-free, so they lack parity with steam by default. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, steam version is the one with the drm-free "feature" removed, and therefore the lesser one.

Achievements could be a nice addition for some people, but are arguably, in fact, not drm-free friendly at all. As in being a feature linked to a store. And that makes it a drm feature by definition.

CharlesGrey: Who said it's a matter of either/or? People who complain about lack of Achievements or any other features simply want the full package, without any missing content, now matter how insignificant. After all, games here are usually sold at the same price as on Steam or elsewhere.
I could also complain about not having a steam key with my gog purchase. It is, after all, sold here at the same price as on Steam or elsewhere. That wouln't make any sense, though.

Pretty much my thought too.

Of course some developers fully integrate achievements into their games without being linked to anything outside. Those can be great and DRM-free (but then they are also supported on GoG by default).

Is this related to Diablo in anyway or are we just spouting random quotes to give people the wrong impression?

Yeah, but who really cares about them? They don't add anything to the game, they're not even really part of the game. It's just an annoying little popup that says "you did this. Yay!". I know I did it. I was there. I don't need you to tell me I did it. I made it happen. If I'm unaware I made it happen, then I wasn't TRYING to do it and subsequently, I don't CARE that I did it because it wasn't my intention. What actual purpose do achievements serve? Ego boost for insecure little boys who need to be told "good job" for wiping their ass after a dump? I don't get this phenomenon and maybe never will.

This is one I'm going to have to wait for a few reviews on. If it's another "brutal, unforgiving combat" one, I'll have to pass. Too many of those lately. I can deal with a challenge, but not the level that many of these have been including. I'm rather happy this isn't another "random levels" game though! The game card reads in ways that could indicate that, but it seems like it was intentionally written wishy-washy.

Zoidberg: Let's be honest, it is an entirely secondary feature, not directly related to the game.
But... they can add replay value to a single player game... encourage a second run through to tackle all the extra challenges the developer put there in the form of Achievements

And hey... look at me, I'm gonna buy it on Steam over GOG today because of this... I'll get a GOG DRM-free backup copy when it goes on sale here at some point (if it stays up-to-date with the Steam version)

If you think that's worth it, then be my guest.

Getting it on Steam instead of here just because of that is no good reason for me. I'd rather not have achievements, or heck, wait a couple weeks so that the feature is implemented.

The devs made the effort for simulatenous releases on different stores and most game-centric features are there, if not all.

That's good enough for me to get the game here.

And that's the beauty of choice... but I passed on the GOG initial purchase because of the game being the same price, but with less "features"... yah, they're not important to you and I respect that fully... but for some, it means buying it here or not... and I've been on GOG a long time and it's quite rare for a game to get Achievements after it's already been released... I have over 1,000 games here and I can probably count on one hand (maybe two) of the times that has happened.

The GOG version has way more features. The important one: IT's NOT STEAM. It's on the major DRM-free storefront. That's worth way more than any other so-called "feature". (And Achivements tend to be an anti-feature that interfere with maximal enjoyment of a game.)

fonimul: Another one blocked in China?
GOG should get that one too.

Again... that's subjective what's a feature to someone and what's not... GOG is my go-to and has been for quite some time, but in cases like this... I'll go Steam now and then GOG on a sale later to have a DRM-free backup... but this wouldn't have even been a conversation had the game released on GOG with all the Galaxy features in tow... for me it's "am I getting the most bang for my buck?" and Achievements are great for a second play through (for me)
I like the style and the description, but I really need to ask this: is this another one of those games with "Souls-like" combat? Because, I mean... nothing against that, but I'd really like a proper "simple" metroidvania, I already have Death's Gambit, if I want a "Souls" 2D pixel art demake, and I like it well enough, but I'm not buying this if it's another one of those.

So, glad for the usual achievement debacle, but could someone actually talk about the game?

Sadly this game is not available in China :(

Is that because of the apparent game approval freeze or is it for another reason?
