obscuritan: I've played ~10hrs of this game on Steam, it's a LOT of fun with a great variety in vehicle and weapon combinations, and a lot of missions to play in the two different modes. Plus the soundtracks and audiobook in the deluxe edition are great, and there's a lot of detailed lore you can unlock.

serpantino: I was really interested till I saw the words roguelite then I immediately closed the page. I'm so sick of seeing roguelite and roguelike in indie game descriptions :(.
avatar
obscuritan: "Roguelike" isn't really an appropriate label for it - in freelance mode the layout of the missions changes but it's still the same objectives and opposition, they're just in different points on the map. The missions in the "story" mode are static in layout as far as I can tell. That's the only bit of "procedural" stuff in it, and the cash you earn permanently unlocks more weapons, vehicles and pilots, as well as missions to play.
Thanks for the reply From everything I've read I think I'll have to look into the game some more as it does actually sound like something I'd be into.

isurus: so glad that you're selling this. i just got my copy from the humble monthly bundle, but, had I not, i would have bought it from you. today i just read their post about '5 years of game dev will kill you' http://imgur.com/gallery/bGLAQ

this game is an underrated hidden gem that didn't get the spotlight it deserved. as a former game dev, with a brother who went indie and back to a studio, i know how hard it is to develop games, and how you can be screwed if your game won't sell. under-represented games that don't get the love they deserve is a real shame. so, i am glad you are supporting them, i hope it will help turn the tide.
Wasn't planning on buying yet, but their response make me buy.
Reminds me of this Future Cop: LAPD
In case anyone's wondering - this controls GREAT with mouse and keyboard, too.

I got this with humble monthly and honestly I didn't like it. I installed it played the first 5 or 6 missions and uninstalled it. The controls with the controller felt weird to me, especially the aiming. So I switched to the kb+mouse and the aiming worked better for me so I stuck with that. I don't particularly like WASD controls in this type of shooter type game. The movement is a bit clunky but expected for this type of game. The game just bored me overall though. It's very much a list of missions, that basically say the same thing, go here, kill this target and any opposition, and exit to be paid. The thing that bothered me most I think was I was learning the controls of the vehicle then when I finally started to get it, it changed to a completely different vehicle that worked differently. I am guessing at some point you can choose the vehicle and loadout for the mission, but at least on the start levels you have to use what was given to you and after the third (I think) vehicle change I was done with the game. I saw some potential in the combat system, but honestly I just lost interest in the whole game very quickly.

Oh goodness, yes, you certainly do get to choose - the game may indeed not be your cup of tea, so I certainly don't mean to laser in on you! But I should say for others that those first twelve missions are really only the tutorial, introducing game concepts with infoboxes as you go. You get past them quickly, and there are four "ease-in" campaign missions after the tutorial that let you choose any of the three loadouts you'd just used. The missions after that comprise the "true" campaign and each gives you 4 choices, all different for each mission.

But the Campaign is instructional and can be thought of as challenge mode, with pre-set loadouts and map/enemy layouts. The meat of the game is in Freelance, where you have freedom to choose any vehicle/equipment loadout you like, using money earned through the Campaign and Freelance runs to first unlock them. You then choose an Operation to run, which is a set of anywhere between 2 and 18 levels, to attempt with a single life. Enemy composition and positions are randomized each time, and the enemy count and aggression ramps up pretty quickly as the difficulty rises (determined by your choice of pilot in Freelance) and the challenge becomes surviving overwhelming odds by evasion, mouseholing, flanking, and basically fighting dirty. You're a corporate mercenary, after all.

You're right: destroy the targets, escape, get paid is true, if not as rudimentary a description as can be. But gameplay style changes depending on the size, speed, and strength of the vehicle you choose and the equipment its armed it with. A big heavy mech with thick armor and artillery cannons for arms is going to be a bit more...direct than the powersuit with irradiator and stealth drive.

Their original problem was that there was NO real tutorial, but now it may be the opposite is true. Sorry to gush! I just really love the game and would love to see it do well. It can take a little while for it to click, but when it does it gives back in spades.

Edit: One thing I'd suggest, though it can be easy to bounce off of, is trying 'Relative' controls with WASD+Mouse. If you can get used to the tank-style control of it, I think it gives by far the greatest degree of control over movement. Personal preference though!

Pretty much, and highly not believable too :P

Though, to have a question on topic: Why are there three versions of the game now?

https://www.gog.com/game/brigador
https://www.gog.com/game/brigador_deluxe_edition_upgrade
https://www.gog.com/game/brigador_deluxe_edition

I own the first two (don't think the deluxe edition existed when I bought it 2-3 days ago). So shouldn't I automatically own the third as well?

Upgrade means it turns the regular edition into deluxe edition.

This is Gog... buying the base edition and an upgrade hardly ever marks the deluxe edition as owned (and vice versa)

vulchor: Looks really cool, but I'm bummed that here's yet another new release game that comes with achievements on Steam but not on GOG. All I want is platform parity. If its a feature that GOG offers, then both the Steam version and the GOG version should have the same features.
Hello! Sorry for the delayed response - we aren't as familiar with GOG's fora as Steam's, so it took a bit to find where everything was.

I'm working on implementing achievements across the board, and already have the GOG achievements at parity for what is implemented and fully tested on my developer environment - once everything is confirmed working on GOG I'll flip the switch. In other words, Steam is getting achievements piecemeal, GOG will get them all at once, or at least in larger chunks.

As we're also frequent users of GOG (at least the storefront) we want to provide parity between here and Steam - it's just been a very busy launch week and I'm the only programmer at the moment.

Thank you for your patience. It will be rewarded. :)
