The house that probes built.

Aven Colony is now available DRM-free. Get it 75% off until the end of the Winter Sale (January 3rd, 11PM UTC).

Welcome to Aven Prime, colonists! We have exotic backdrops, advanced technology, and… deadly fungal infections? Shard storms? Aggressive local life forms? Perhaps this required more research but since we're here let's make the most of it: improvise, adapt, overcome, and make this our new home!

Grab the Soundtrack for your collection, 66% off (also until the end of the Winter Sale).

Themken: This again: Typing 'Aven' in the search field turns up nothing, also looking in new releases there is no Aven Colony to be seen.
its not a new game. was released about a year ago or so. maybe that's why ? :/
I *love* a book called "The Jesus Incident" ...

... this world reminds me of Pandora ;) Would love to see if the Devs jump on here and let me know if that world played a role in influencing Aven.

doady: Maybe you should give it 1 star review just to complain about the lack of Linux version like no doubt many other Linux users will. Maybe that will teach the developer not to ignore Linux users any further.

gogtrial34987: Maybe, in the spirit of the season, I'll try to interpret your comment in the most positive light imaginable.

Which I guess means that I have to consider that my previous comment came over... entitled and whiny to you?

Let me clarify that it wasn't meant as such. I'm sure that there's some Linux users who are at times entitled and whiny - we're simply human after all, with good days and bad - but in my experience, most Linux users are pretty reasonable most of the time.

I made my comment, as I'm hoping that someone at the developer/publisher will have a look at this thread, and see that there's someone (me) who has a positive initial impression of the game, and is wondering about availability on Linux. Now, I by myself am not going to cause this game - nor any future games by this developer / publisher - to suddenly show up on Linux. But I doubt that I'm by myself. I expect that there's many more Linux users who'll have shown signs of interest in the past, and will do so in the future, and I hope that at some point that will cross some threshold beyond which it becomes interesting for this developer / publisher to put work into making a Linux release possible. That point would be a happy point.

I'm not demanding anything. I'm not going to have a negative impression of this developer / publisher for not yet having released this game on Linux, and I'm realistic enough to realize that it's exceedingly unlikely for this particular game to ever be released on Linux. I think that's a shame, as the game looks like I might enjoy it - but of well, there's so many other games that are released on Linux, that I'll get over it. :)
I hope that there will be a Linux version for you and others like you. And a Mac version too. It seems like an interesting game, and not a small budget game either. Maybe to expect a Linux (and Mac) version is not unreasonable at all. If they have the resources to make a 12GB game then they probably should have the resources to make different versions for platforms other than Windows.
...
i just bought it. looks fun. kinda can dig the fact it is casual city builder.

I like a lot the Destination: Void universe too - while it's been years... more than a decade, that I read the books - and I remember Alpha Centauri was inspired by these books too. At first, when I looked at the Aven Colony's page, I thought about Utopia, the old PC-AST-Amiga-SNES game, but now you have told about Pandora... I can't get it out of my mind now... :P
Hadn't heard of it before, sounds interesting and is cheap. Can anyone who's played both comment on how it compares to Surviving Mars? Particularly in terms of mid/late game...I generally enjoyed Surviving Mars but felt like I hit a wall after about 25 hours after making a couple of colonies that more or less ran themselves and there wasn't anything else to do but wait on research projects that didn't go anywhere.
Am wondering what the game is like...

Another one who likes Destination: Void and the Pandora Sequence here!

I think, I'll buy this game! :-)

EDIT: Bought!

played the "demo" yesterday, this game is for kids.

too easy. no control over anything. no management. not much to do except building till there's nothing else to build.

no need to use your brain at all. game is way too simple.

it's pretty, and that's all there is to the game. :/
Of all the problems to be solved in the future, I don't think mankind will ever untangle the difficulties of building cities without strict adherence to grid lines.

; )

Looks pretty enough, but I don't see much game in the trailer.
If this runs on Linux I would've already bought it. A pity.
This feels like a far better deal than Surviving Mars (and it's upcoming rows of DLC) or the futuristic portions of the Anno series. It's certainly going on to the wishlist. I wonder if it would even be worth getting Surviving Mars if I chose this title instead?

Hrm. Everything is built using the grid/rectangular style. Curves seem impossible in city builders with the exception of Skylines. Seems really odd that everything *must* be rectangular, road river and rail which is unnatural and very ugly. Looks like Anno 1800 will deviate a little from this peculiar state of affairs, so it would seem, which will be welcome.

Pass.

Surviving Mars is a platform for DLC.

Pretty much any game is better.

I'd rather play the old "Space Colony" for 1000 time.

I love Space Colony! It'd be wonderful if there was an equally fantastic sequel created for it, or a game in a very similar vein.
