Will the Linux and Mac versions of these SNK games support 2 controllers?

Anime-BlackWolf: Yeah, consoles or PC emulation with emulators and roms is a known alternative, but a "real" PC port would be much nicer. There IS a market for these games here, too...
avatar
ReynardFox: I'd settle for competent, licensed emulation...
Agreed. The original DRM-free release of Sega Genesis Classics Collection on Amazon was pretty damn good. Not as good as Kega Fusion, but worth buying.

Anime-BlackWolf: There IS a "King of the Monsters 2" from SNK, which is still missing, too.

Or the dumb but fun "Ikari Warriors" oder "Guerilla Wars" games. ^^
SNK's pre-Neo-Geo games don't ever seem to get any love. Sad too, they put out some hot stuff in the old days. Wonder how they'd make the rotary-stick games work, though. Rotate with triggers? Turn 'em into twin-stick shooters?

rampancy: I don't remember exactly...why are the OS X and Linux versions included as unsupported extras?
I don't know why they're "unsupported" since the few I've tried work just fine in Sierra on my mini.

Actually, I don't get all the hullabaloo about these games. I'm not having any real problems with these other than some slowdown in the Metal Slugs, which I expected. *shrug* I still would like to know who did the control mislabelling though as all game show the wrong ABCD button setup. Once I figured out what the actual keys were I was able to map my SFC30 pad accordingly.
It's about time Capcom releases their 2D classics here on GOG to recover their finacial loss and get things right again...
Anyone know how easy (or not) it is to run these games in an alternate emulator? Is the rom file sitting in the directory or does it require extraction or something?

According to a post earlier in the thread, you can take neogeo.zip and the game zip eg: mslug.zip and drop them into MAME 0.185's roms folder and that should work just fine.

So I tried the MAME route just out of curiosity, and, no, the games don't magically improve when doing so. In fact, they play, look, and sound virtually identical to what I already have. I'm good with what I've got. Thanks.

Of course it's not going to magically improve. You have to configure it properly.
So all these new SNK games are mere rom dumps with half baked emulators and barely any options at all like before?

Should we expect any improvements in the future? Real shame of SNK handling these classics like this.

It seems the last time they actually cared at all was for KoF 1998 UM FE and KoF 2002 UM on Steam which feel like proper ports and have a ton of options and settings and improvements over any previous version of the games.

I wish all these games had the same and better treatment...

Yes they are just ROM + emulator.
I have no hope for any real improvements. Maybe better GOG Galaxy support?
Anyway you can use those ROMs with other emulators, so I am fine with it.

Just cheking but would one need to use 7z to extract the ROM from the .exe or is the ROM file found in the directory?

The ROMs as is are fine for use with emulators, but note taht some emulators offer an 'overclock' option that lets games run unihibited by the original hardware's limitations. Meaning Metal Slug 2 won't run like arse with an option such as that set.

I have not checked latest 8 SNK games here, but rest SNK games should all work like the post above.

_ChaosFox_: A warning: while the Metal Slug games run reasonably well, Garou and Last Blade are the same useless hack job ports that DotEmu released and abandoned on Steam (with the same inexplicable 57fps lock and resultant judder). The remaining games that aren't on Steam are identical to the barebones ports on Humble (whose version of Garou inexplicably runs at a much smoother 60fps) that have no reconfigurable control support.

I seriously can't believe DotEmu have managed to fuck up EVERY SINGLE port they've done so far (Nicky Boum, Double Dragon Trilogy, R-Type 1 & 2 on Android, Raiden Legacy, the SNK Neo Geo games). DotEmu really needs to go bankrupt. Wonder Boy was only a success because it was ported externally by a company that actually gave a fuck.
Thanks for the warning.

So they haven't patched the Steam version of Garou and now they're selling this botched port here on GOG without any fixes. DotEmu, c'mon, have some shame :/

Anime-BlackWolf: Thanks GOG, those were quite long awaited from me. Completing the collection now.

Now please continue with SEGA or IREM, please?
avatar
nate1222: Agreed.

I still have the DRM-free installers from when the Sega Genesis Classics Collection were DRM-free on Amazon and DotEmu's site. Since then, Amazon now only carries Steam keys and DotEmu's site is no more. Good thing I backup copied those installers.

Doc0075: Is Ironclad any good? Used to love schmups back in my Amiga days.
avatar
nate1222: Ironclad is pretty good. Like Viewpoint (Neo Geo/Sega 32X) with a steam-punk aesthetic.
I have the same drm free installers from amazon. And i got all bundles (5 I think) for 2 dollars during a day or two when they had a pricing error on it. I also own the same bundles on dotemu where i originally purchased them first. Anywho...
