You're out of touch? I don't even know what Reddit is.

DieRuhe: To me, it is nothing more than a glorified "general forum," but you could still find interesting stuff now and then, despite the overkill on rules.
A general forum with terrible layout.

Take boring office meetings, post-it notes, and internet chat rooms and put it all in a blender. Presto! Reddit.

Oh, I forgot to mention a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of crazy.

Pheace: I just hope /r/keto stays up, we're on a diet here and it's the best resource of information >.<
It's not.
So is 'keto' a healthy and effective diet?
I vaguely remember paleo for example being criticized for being ultimately bad for your health.

The criticism of a lot of those diets are done by people that are just as uneducated and ignorant as the ones that are promoting them. To make matters worse, the doctors that typically criticize the diets are completely unqualified to be handing out dietary advice.

I'm not so sure about keto, but you do have to keep your carbs down if you want to burn fat. The body has to burn through the glycogen stores before it needs to start burning fat.

Healthy or not is more a matter of degrees than anything else.

It's eating almost no carbs (~<20-30), moderate protein (~80-100g, to retain your muscles), and the rest fat till you reach the amount of calories you're aiming for.

Since the body has no carbs to burn it will switch to burning fat as it's primary fuel. It's quite interesting actually. We've only just started it so we're still kind of only just past the 'keto flu' as they call it, the period where your body adjusts to the change, but I have to say I've been feeling particularly 'stable' rather then the ups and downs I used to have when eating carbs/sugar.

Maybe there's downsides but I've seen too many pro's not to at least try it :)

Alright, being a pokey little flab-biscuit I'm always curious about these things.
I wouldn't be able to stick to it though.

Maybe there's downsides to ketosis? Yeah, there are a few.

I love seeing the new names for the same diet keep coming up, and people keep going on about how marvellous it is and so much better than the exact same thing by a different name. Hope it works for you; but more than that, hope you stay healthy on it.

If you mean Ketoacidosis that would affect people with Type 1 Diabetes or Alcoholics. We don't have Diabetes and don't drink alcohol :)

As much as I don't care about Reddit, I'm far more concerned that Neogaf is down due to a large scale DDOS. :\ I hope the perps either blurt out their names or get found.

From the Wikipedia link.

"Ketosis:
Not to be confused with ketoacidosis."

And yet there's a section in the ketosis wiki that explains Ketoacidosis, so I'm asking if that's what he was referring to.

Common pitfall on how diets are "used" is that people go from one extreme to another. It might be OK for some bodybuilders who are aware of basic medical and biology stuff but for common folks, it's unhealty coz people take things literally

Personally, at one point in my life, I was living on daily cans of beers and Belgian fries. Instead of eating like some buddhist monk afterwards, I just diminished my alcohol consumption and totally cut carbs in the evening so I lost around 20 kilos in one year without feeling "restrained". Now I look like Tom Cruise :o)
