Nope, nope. Not weekend music. Yeah, you posted it during the week so I won't score it on the weekend scale but we need happier music than that. 5/10, because it's slow and doesn't really go anywhere.

OK, happier music. Laid, by James.

Aw, man, that's actually my favorite Eve 6 track. I know it's not the most musically impressive thing but I sure love that guitar. 9/10 from me.

Sorry to double up, had to when I heard that. Uh, the late 90s / early 00s guitar vibe is strong here. How about Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups?

Well, that bit was surprising. Anyway, 6/10.

If the order of business now is energy and stuff, how 'bout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu2bgwcv43o Can't listen to them otherwise (tried, bounced right off other songs), and not happy, but when I stumbled into it back then I recall describing it to someone as an acoustic equivalent of an energy drink (and she agreed), and used it as such on a number of occasions.
(A certain part of the video may be offensive to some.)

Faroese Viking Death Metal? They've got fewer than 50k people in the isles, Google tells me. How do they have enough of a musical population to get into that niche? Well, ok. 7/10 for the genre. The video's a bit dramatic, reminds me of Metalocalypse (though to be fair, most metal reminds me of Metalocalypse since that's what it set out to be reminiscent of).

Something more chilled to end the weekend. This is the track that got me into Balearic Trance maybe almost 20 years ago now. It's a lovely soundscape - it actually sounds like driving home after a night at a club, top down, beachside road, as the sky turns to first light and the world starts to wake up. Course, if you don't like trance you won't like it nearly as much as I do ;) Here's The Drive Home by Chicane.

EDIT: Fixed the link! Thanks, Hunch.

6/10 for the song you actually linked (music was good, vocals were weedy except near the end where he let loose, video was a video);
3/10 for the song you meant to link (this kind of music is akin to an alien culture to me; about the most repetitive music I can generally enjoy is something like this, which I guess counts as my song for consideration this time =) ).

Wow, that is honestly the first song in this thread I haven't been able to listen to all the way through. Bonus point for that. I'll go 4/10 since I can't fairly judge a song I didn't listen to all the way, but man, that's terrible. You like that more than The Drive Home? Huh.

Well, then, let's take it highbrow. If ya'll don't know Bach's Cello Suite No.1 then you're missing out on one of the best pieces of music ever written for a single instrument (here it is) but I'd like to suggest a more modern take. Here's The Piano Guys doing an 8-voice layering of that Cello Sonata.

Remember that one from back when it was released. And feels wrong to rate something like that. But... 8/10, instrumental only after all.

Sort of along those lines then... Rather random pick.
Wow, I thought I'd give the thread a break for a while so I didn't come to be seen as "that asshole who doesn't like anybody else's music", maybe give some other people a chance to jump in. But that apparently didn't pan out, and if the alternative is the thread just dying...

Not exactly up my alley (I don't usually care for operatic or theatrical [in the literal sense] vocals in rock, and rock band + orchestra can rarely escape seeming a bit self-indulgent to me), plus the fact that it's always hard to fairly evaluate a song sung in a language one doesn't speak (and I don't find merely having a translated lyric sheet on hand while listening to be a sufficient substitute). I'll call it 5/10.

Not a fan of the stoner rock, eh? =D So...since you bailed early, I take it you didn't even make it to the glorious mariachi death throes that the last few minutes of the song devolve into? XD
And yes, I still like that song far more than any ambient club whatever I've ever heard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, my submission this time is another "and now for something completely different" departure from the previous songs posted: "City Noise" by Jill Andrews

I guess I really don't much, no. With only a few exception, I don't even really like Led Zeppelin, which seems almost a crime against humanity to admit. But I do like a lot of 60s rock, and, really, wasn't all 60s rock stoner rock? ;)

I like her voice. I had to go search her discography because I knew I had heard it before but couldn't recall. She did the theme song for the (admittedly kitschy) SyFy series Wynonna Earp which I enjoyed despite itself. But in looking also found her track "Get Up, Get On" which is also really nice. Anyway, 8/10 from me for the one you linked, nice stripped-down sound.

Going to stick with an ethereal female vocal theme - though switch to dreampop/shoegaze, I suppose - and offer up The Sundays. I couldn't really decide between Here's Where the Story Ends, and Summertime, so I guess I'll just go with which one has more hits. Here's Where the Story Ends, by The Sundays. (But if you like it enough to wonder about the other, I might know where to find it ;) )

(Not available in my country, but found another upload.) I'd call that more cheery than ethereal. Rather too cheery for me, so can't quite do better than 6/10.

On the ethereal note, how 'bout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keIAjP19084 Know better, but can't quite recall names at that moment, while that popped to mind when I read the word.

I mean, "ethereal" means delicate and light, and she's sort of rock opera which is essentially the purest opposite. The song material is otherworldly, though, I guess. Either way, it's a good sound. 8/10, I think, for me.

Looks like the singer for Frightened Rabbit was just found dead so thought I'd post something of theirs as a farewell. It's very hit or miss with people I've recommended it to, but I really enjoyed their album Midnight Organ Fight. This is the first track of theirs that ended up on the TV show Chuck, IIRC - "Keep Yourself Warm" by Frightened Rabbit. If you like it, at least check out "Floating In The Forth" as well.

Not really my cup of tea. Too slow and repetitive for my tastes. 4/10.

Now for something I only wish could be my theme song. Enjoy!
