misteryo: 9/10 - Punk, messing with the listener, gender-bending, confrontational

10/10 because I love U2 and am part Irish.

How bout a a modern classic rock song about love and loss?

Great topic, I think it's very interesting to see how other people react to music you like.

I would rate the Zakk Wylde song 7 maybe 8 out of ten. I respect him as an artist and I generally like what I have heard from him (not a lot but still).

I'm rediscovering some neo prog these days and here is a classic of the genre. I recommend also to read the lyrics.

6/10 Not bad, not great.

Time to get industrial.

7/10, not their best, but Rammstein almost always does good work. Sticking with German (well, Austrian technically) let's have one of EAV's more serious songs (even though it does end up with Death, drunk, dancing on furniture): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1z4Xn0yJWM
This seems to be dying, wonder why...

Again the language issue, even more so for something basically spoken. But not a bad sound, all told. 6/10

Hmm, let's go with one entered into the selection for ESC here, but which didn't even make it out of the semi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV44Powu3fI

(FYI, eventual winner was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_7dBLmtNXk which at least I agreed with out of those in the final.)
Nice stage setup but the singer has all the presence of a cardboard cutout. Without seeing the competition I can't say for sure but it seems reasonable that that performance wouldn't get far in a national talent search. Can't go over a 5/10 on that...you're in the big leagues, you get big league points docked.

It really is a dying thread. Let's see if The Who can attract any interest. Hopefully everyone knows the excellent Baba O'Riley. Thoughts on it?

I like The Who, I love Roger Daltrey (though to me he'll always be Hugh Fitzcairn :D) but this really isn't a song I'm particularly fond of. Not that I dislike it, I just don't much care for it either. If you posted Who Are You I'd be more enthusiastic.

Do I have to give it a rating? I hate measuring things like that. I mean, what's the scale? AM I supposed to measure all music on the same 1-10 scale? If I put Taylor Swift and Katy Perry on the same scale as The Who, then every song by The Who will be a 10 :P I don't know, let's call it a 7/10, which is supposed to mean "I recognise how good it is, but I just don't presonally like it all that much".

Now, how about this superb example of awesome 80s weirdness?

Holy mother of... that is... unique. 3/10

Cracking song, if anyone ever asks what is AUS, well I say its Neighbours, XXXX'ing awful beer, and Men At Work. 8/10.

So, to keep in with the 80's:

Hell yeah, Man Without Hats. S-A-F-E-T-Y DANCE. 8/10 easily. I also love the vid.

Since we're in the 80s, possibly my favourite decade, how about one of my favourite songs featured on Miami Vice?

I always suspected you were several raccoons stacked in a trench coat. 7/10 for Baba O'Riley merely supports this thesis. >.>

I don't think I ever heard this before, despite watching some Miami Vice. That's a real good track, nice mellow sound. 8/10, would have gone higher but the vocal range in that song pretty much is only wider than that of Cake.

The fabulous mohawk on the cover there means I have to follow on with some fabulous hair. There are so many options for that in the 80s. How about When In Rome?
Good song, surprised I've never heard it before. 8/10

Lets stick with the eighties with one of my favourite bands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssX9nWAJsbE

5/10.

I never really liked 80s music unless I really liked it.

Had to tab away because the video was making me irrationally angry but that's a lovely song, though it threw me for a spin. Was sure I heard of that guy but had to Google it - his band in the 90s had a song on the Mallrats soundtrack. That's where I'd heard of him before. But that sing you linked is pretty good once it gets going. 7/10 anyway, maybe 9 for the song alone if it didn't come with that godawful video.

Canadian music, eh? Well then we're gonna hear about The Last Saskatchewan Pirate just because if I have to have this damned song in my head, someone else should, too.
