So I have a humble bundle account with a few games on it. Some games say I also have a steam link for them. However I do not use steam at all and I can download games DRM free through humble bundle. If I want to redeem the game through steam, I have to link a steam account. So theoretically I can give the steam keys to a friend by linking their steam account in my humble bundle.

So my question is: Is this piracy or is this to be seen as a second copy of the game. Since GOG and steam are two stores and if I were to have a game on both that means I have two copies of the game.

What are your thoughts on it? I would like to give away games to close friends since I don't use steam and have no need for those unredeemed steam 'keys'.

I think this covers it all:

(Near the bottom)

My only personal caveat when gifting is:
Did they publisher/developer provide a DRM-Free game and/or a cross-platform game? Don't give it away, maybe buy again for friend..

But I'm an idealist that way :)
I think this FAQ should be enough to answer your question.

Ironically, there is another FAQ, which seems to contradict the upsaid one: «The gifting process will only give the recipient the Steam key. If there is a soundtrack or DRM Free copy of the game in the bundle, you will still retain ownership of it and it will stay on your download page.»

EDIT: Phaedrus567 has been quicker. ;-)

Depends entirely on how old the bundles are.

It used to be a firm "no, don't do that", but then it became a "sure thing, we'll even make an interface for you for the very purpose." sometime around Christmas 2013 (if memory serves). Then around last Christmas that interface was discontinued. I don't know if you are allowed to gift now, but I expect you are.
Well I bought a game on the developer's website directly as I heard it was the way to get the game DRM free. Apparantly besides being able to download the game DRM free on Humble Bundle, you also get a steam key. However it states: "Steam will not provide extra giftable copies of games you already own."
Well I don't own it on steam since I don't have steam. Well I kind of do but I don't use it at all.

I have to click the button to redeem it on steam. So if I let a friend do that process that should be alright?
Both copies are supposed to be redeemed by the same user, but because they try to attract customers with the Steam key even if you want the DRM-free version, I just trade the Steam key or give it away. It also tells me they might not support the DRM-free version in the future, so the game is worth 50% off. I'm petty like that.

This is where my memory gets foggy, and you might need to learn by doing.
When I clicked that link, and typed in my steam account - I believe it linked to that account from then on (until I told it to unlike).

So in short, yes - click the link and have the friend sign in.

BUT given the conflicting FAQs and history given by the dr. shliemann and Rixasha, if there isn't a present next to that link, they probably don't want you to do that.

Sorry, I wish I could be more help.
My grey-area accepting moral code and "legal" code often conflict (but I'm always right, so that's ok :) )

if you look to the right, there is a small icon like a wrapped present. click that and it will provide a link for you to pass along so someone else can redeem it to steam.

if there is instead a steam key, then it will state "click here for your steam key(s)" (instead of the interface as shown on the attached image) and you can just copy/paste and pass them along.

thats... weird! not encountered it otherwise before even with store purchases.
are you in a position to upload a screenshot (obviously with any private info / links etc edited out) and maybe we can figure out whats going on from there?!

I bought the game through the developer's site.

The screenshot is actually two in 1. The black bar in the middle seperates the two pages.

thats the screen the second part of my post refers to - just click "click here to get your steam key" and copy/paste the code to whomever you want to be able to redeem it.
Please notice, option of gifting or giving away codes for games is NOT available if you purchased game in Humble Store or Humble Widget.
So, literally you ca only gift games purchased in bundles (Main, weekly, doesnt matter).
As for question about recent bundles - yes, you still can gift away game, but you gift not steam key as is, but humble product which should be redeemed in account linked to steam.

Precisely. I bought it in the humble widget thingy on the developer's site. So from a legal stand point, am I allowed to link a steam account of a friend to my humble so he can redeem that 'hidden key'?
