Anyone know what's happening/what happened to the Thomas Was Alone funds?

SirPrimalform: Anyone know what's happening/what happened to the Thomas Was Alone funds?
No, but I think they reach $425 or so, and while that's likely significant to folks that bought because of the donation, the sum is much smaller and likely the developer can just refund the orders for those who want their money back.

Mike says he will follow Indie Stone's lead. Not sure what that means for refunds.

Oh I certainly don't want a refund, I'm just curious as to what's actually happened to the money.

Whether or not I actually want the money to go to Chloe very much depends on the nature of the lie. If the truth is "I'm not really dying" then obviously I'd feel fairly cheated, but if she is genuinely dying of something then I'm not sure it matters so much.

jimfear: Has anyone heard any sort of news about this? Two days is a pretty long silence when information was promised.
Information was promised, but I wouldn't be surprised if it never shows up. Which, well, I can't blame her. It seems like it would be far easier to just disappear for a while than try to answer to an angry internet, particularly under extreme depression, and especially considering the horrid treatment she got at the hands of certain reddit/4chan members.

So I guess the best thing to do is just kinda leave things as they are. Indie Stone is doing refunds if you feel ripped off, and Mike is a stand-up guy who would be happy work things up over email. Personally, Doctors Without Borders is a fine charity I don't mind seeing my donation go to. But my take is that if she wants to volunteer more information, that's fantastic, but I can't agree with any attempts to pressure her or hold her accountable when she never wound up getting money in the end.

Chloe has apparently decided to stop sharing information due the vast and huge amount of hate she's received.

Do you blame her? Wouldn't you, if attacked so vociferously, choose to retreat? Hey, I only got mauled on the Groupee's support thread by a homophobic troll and one nasty copycat giveaway to get extremely upset by hatred directed at me.

Imagine thousands of people with your email sending you hate mail - you never know if this one is supportive or contains a bombshell of hate...

Put yourself in her place when you post - really and truly put yourself there...Can you even do that? Does the amount of hate you've allowed yourself to imagine even come close?

Project Zomboid, Thomas Was Alone - they were just innocent bystanders in the path of homophobia and misogyny. Indiegogo, I have a lot less sympathy for - you decided to cave to hate-mongers and in large part, caused this nightmare. PayPal - screw you - you suck when it comes to standing for sexual freedom or anything considered outre - there are plenty of providers to take your place that don't have a moralistic horse to ride - Get a clue and join the 21st century.

For the rest of you - Does one individual have a chance when millions decide to vilify you? Consider that before you add your voice to that hateful crowd. Frankly, it could be you facing that.

There but for the grace of god go I. Consider that in a heartbeat, a momentary lack of judgment, a misstep of fortune- you, I mean you personally, find yourself in media's ray of light. Will you survive it?

What GaiaMike said contradicts that. Apparently the Indiegogo was shut down when Chloe told them a piece of information that she had withheld from the campaign. Make of that what you will, but I don't think it's fair to say that Indiegogo caved to hatemongers.

EDIT: Found one of the posts where he says it.

Momo, please tone it down. I've read this entire thread, and not one poster in here deserves the accusations you're leveling. You have been right about one thing from the get-go: When someone asks for help, people are free to choose to help without strings attached. And, others shouldn't worry about arguing about that choice. But I'd like to point out that we are also free to not help, for whatever reason. I read the story and I decided not to pitch in. I get asked for help a lot, and I make my own decisions. And, if you want to be free and unmolested when you choose to help someone, you should also leave others free to abstain, express scepticism, etc.

I'm not condoning hate, but you have become indiscriminate with your above post. You imply things about people in this thread which I don't see are true. You also make judgements about Indigogo, PayPal, and the game developers (who you go lightly on) - all of whom made judgements based partly on information that neither you nor we have. I would suggest that you do not know enough to decide what exactly went on.

So, please, let's keep the civility this forum is characterized by. After all, it's one of the main reasons I came and I stayed.

Cheers.
There's a lot more to this than simple hate mongering. As SPF pointed out, there's obviously been some misstep on Chloe's part. Now if she wants to share with the world or not that's her business, but there's more to the story and it's not right to cast judgments on Indiegogo, on Chloe, or on anyone else (with the possible exception of the real misogynists, of which this case admittedly involved a few, though none in this thread).

Like I said, I would welcome more information but whether or not it comes, the problem is out of our hands. No one got scammed, nothing drastic happened (thankfully), and it seems that Chloe has a support network who can hopefully help her decide what to do from here. Let's leave it as is.

EDIT: Ninja'd by a great response from misteryo! Now my reasonable mediation seems a bit redundant.

Indeed. +1

I do think there's something more than what we've been told and that she's in a particularly bad state. I'm hoping she gets whatever help she needs, but the extended silence does make one question the inevitability of death without treatment.

I certainly hope that the truth isn't a somataform disorder where she's likely to self harm until she gets surgery, because that would suck. I'd likely contribute to that, but it would be really tough to come clean and get funding for that.

Momo1991: Yanno, SirPrimalform, why don't you get a clue about public relations before you speak?
Sorry, I'm not wasting my time reading a post that starts like that. You are rude, preachy and annoying and I have no interest in anything further you have to say.

EDIT:

Momo1991: Have you even paid attention to the back-story which might explain why she did not give IGG ALL of the information to begin with? You're so quick to judge, so quick to believe big corporations with a lot to lose, so quick to question some 20-something kid with a medical condition without a PR department behind her.
Ok, so I read a little bit and you appear to be full of crap. No matter what context you put it in, she wasn't truthful about something. That is why the campaign was shut down. You're welcome to call that "cav[ing] to hate-mongers" if you wish, but don't expect anyone reasonable to agree with you.

Finally, please for fuck's sake stop starting posts with "yanno".
