Liberté! Égalité! Spécialité!

Tooth and Tail, a grimly satirical RTS about organized animal cruelty, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free, on GOG.com with a 10% pre-order discount.

Time to break the (food) chains! The War for Meat has thrown the animal kingdom into upheaval and everyone is out to subdue and consume their opponents. Customize your faction and lead an army of aggressive fuzzballs through procedurally generated maps to burn, gut, or blast the other woodland creatures into gooey pixels. Then you can go online and brutalize your friends' furry pets, unless they're willing to swing by for some couch split-screen play.

The 10% discount will last until the game's expected release on September 13.

Matruchus: Complain to gog. Its their fault cause they don't provide the required service to devs that is needed for Linux releases.

fleischpampe: This is getting off topic, but I'm genuinely curious. What is missing? There are so many games I'd like to buy but are on the "linux version elsewhere" list :(
Go to the galaxy libraries issue thread for more information.

lareg: Thanks for the opportunity.

So, re: the bit where it says that controls have been specifically designed for the gamepad.
Meaning that keyboard and mouse are actually the number-two choice here? In an RTS?

That's different, to say the least.

ajschatz: Oh, man, we used our PS4 description here. The game was designed with the constraints of a controller in mind, and designed to be just as fun on either controller or keyboard/mouse. I'll need to adjust the store language. Thanks for catching that! If you're curious about the controls, here's a layout for you:
You're welcome, and cheers for clearing that up.

Can you please answer this question?

nightcraw1er.488: I was mildly interested up until this part:
"With matches lasting from 5-12 minutes, controls designed specifically for the gamepad, and split-screen couch play, Tooth and Tail is a popcorn RTS for veterans and newcomers alike. "

Sounds like a very simple console RTS-like affair from that, not to mention randomised maps.

So, its onto the no-go for list for me.
Ah, that's a bummer. I usually don't get influenced one way or the other by trailers, but this one had me jazzed. That description took me out of my happy place. Thanks for saving me $18.

EDIT: After reading the dev's response, I'm interested again, but I'l wait until I start seeing positive reviews before pulling the trigger.

Mr ajschatz, can you give us some info on the single player campaign / campaigns? I am a huge fan of those in RTS more than multiplayer. Are we getting at least a bit of campaign missions/story? Or just scrimishes/multiplayer/tutorial?:)

Of course not every game is for everyone, but we definitely have people that love the game. High level League and SC2 players are part of our alpha community, one of which has over 1000 hours in the game. Jesse Cox said it was his favorite game of last PAX. The controls are simplified, the matches are shorter, but the depth of strategy isn't lost!

Yes! The campaign has 24 missions and 4 mission hubs, with tons of story. It's hard to estimate total play time but I'm guessing between 10-25 hours, depending on skill and how much of a completionist you are. The missions are super diverse, and they all fit into a linear story that tells the narrative of the war. On top of that, the actual terrain in each mission is procedurally generated, so each time you play the mission you'll have to adjust your strategy. We do also have bots to fill in skirmish matches if that's your thing!

Hi shmerl! Nothing neforaious is going on here. I suspect it's just that since online multiplayer does require galaxy they don't want to sell a crippled product to linux users. I'm not aware of anything more than that.

Thanks. Are you saying GOG didn't want to release it without multiplayer, and otherwise you could do it?

I actually don't know! We haven't discussed it!

Hm, that's kind of the point. Before GOG said they are talking directly to developers to address this, and here it seems they didn't reach out to you about the issue.

That would be very strange indeed cause gog releases all the windows games separately for offline gameplay aka singleplayer only with offline installers.
I'm a Linux user as well, and really wanting this game. I would love to have this game on GOG, but I may have to get it on Steam.. Honestly, if GOG ever got around to actually porting Galaxy to Linux we wouldn't be having this problem. This isn't the only game I had to buy elsewhere, either.

Really, since when? Gwent, Goblins, WitcherAG, Armello, possibly Absolver (not confirmed one way or another). Techincally you could argue that other than Gwent the others had a playable portion offline, however stretching the bounds and all that.

Thanks for the reply; the depth of strategy is important to me. Cheers, and good luck with the game!
