paladin181: It's not about enjoyment, but about not supporting shitty practices in games and those who perpetuate them. I'm not going to give my money to an animal shelter that allows or supports unregulated animal testing for medical procedures or treatments. I'm not going to give money to a publisher who does things I don't agree with. While Ghorpm's threshold is different from my own, I totally get his position.
I used enjoyment as a decision function for buy / not buy (because "you're an idiot for depriving yourself of fun" is a common bad argument), and developer ethics are an operand in it.

blotunga: unique Shadowhand armor (hood, jacket, gloves and trousers) with great statistics, available only if you pre-order a game. What?

cal74: I agree with Amok. One of the item of the collector edition is provided as a bonus for those who pre-order the standard edition. Read description of both versions and you will see the difference.
Uh no.

JMich: Hm, looks interesting.

Ghorpm: Yeah, sort of. But pre-order exclusive means I'm no longer interested.
You're being harsh, sir. This thing "won’t slow you down as much as other armor sets in the same class" plus it's for you, not your horse! ;)
I've been following this game for at least a couple years through development. It looks GREAT. I'm really pleased that it is coming to GOG, I was wondering if it would (and had been a little put off for a while that there'd been no word on whether they would or not.)

pre-order exclusives with items that actually affect gameplay is not cool at all though - hate that shit, ugh

Ghorpm: Swapper is labeled as "platformer" and trust me - it's not. The game is 2D with a side view, there are some platforms that you can jump but the game is definitely not a platformer. It's all about puzzles, there is no intense jumping sections nor high precision jumps. But the label is still there ;)
avatar
_ChaosFox_: A game does not need intense jumping sections or precision jumping mechanics to be a platformer. Flashback, Another World and Oddworld are all platformers, as is The Swapper.
I don't agree. First of all some of the games you mentioned do contain intense jumping sections (Another World - running away from water) and in general they require some precision and good reflexes. The Swapper has none of these - it's a 2D game about puzzles.
I join the people who were interested until they saw "pre-order exclusive".

Well, of course that's your right to disagree, but in any case, you are in a distinct minority when it comes to describing The Swapper as "not a platformer". Even the developer itself refers to it as a "puzzle platformer", as does the author of the Wikipedia article, PC Gamer, PSN and Eurogamer.

Also, VVVVVV, Bionic Commando (the old arcade game and the NES game, not the 3D reboot) and Burger Time are all widely considered platformers and don't even have any jumping mechanics. Jumping is not a prerequisite of the genre. There are only three defining characteristics of 2D platformers: the character is directly controlled by the player, the character is mostly bound by the laws of gravity, the player's agency is restricted mostly to a 2D plane viewed from the side. Everything else is open to interpretation.

I should say I personally don't have any issue with you not considering The Swapper to be a platformer - everyone has the right to define genre boundaries for their own purposes as they see fit. But you shouldn't claim your definition to be the definitive one.

So, Street Fighter is a platformer?

Starmaker: ...
Humble (that I also use a lot, so no problem with them) is not the most reliable source when it comes to clear and complete specifications (and a overhaul of the library would be good one day :) ).

That's why I said in my first post that a confirmation by GOG or the developer/publisher of the armour pre-order status would be the best solution instead of people (me included) trying to interpret maybe erroneously.

They can call it whatever. All I know is that I love it on Switch :D

Joy-cons FTW! Woo-Hoo!!

Heh, touché. I guess technically you could say it is, although Street Fighter's gameplay focuses more on the combat between two individuals as opposed to moving towards a goal or exploration, which I guess is a fourth defining feature in a sense.

In fact, it could be argued that Street Fighter's gameplay is not entirely different from say, Towerfall Ascension. What genre would you put Towerfall Ascension in?
Not that I was ever going to pre-order, but seriously, you put up a pre-order and don't even give the system requirements? You expect me to throw money at a game that not only isn't ready yet, but might not even work on my PC even once it's done?

DebbieL: Yessss! I was hoping this would show up here. Not a fan of pre-order exclusives though, especially ones which affect game balance (though in my experience, they usually get released for free after a while anyway).
They usually get released for free after a while? Maybe you mean they usually release it as an extra DLC after a while (just for 1,99$/Eur, or something like that! lol)

Cosmetics, ok, but something exclusive that directly affects something in-game, and as a pre-order 2 months before release? Urgh, me don't like it :S

_ChaosFox_: What genre would you put Towerfall Ascension in?
I wouldn't. CAG seems the closest, but Towerfall Ascension seems to be centered around versus instead of co-op.

Back to the 4 pillars of platformers. Controlling a character, gravity affecting, 2D plane viewed from the side and exploration. Does that mean that Super Mario 64 and Spyro the Dragon are not platformers?
Preorder-exclusive gameplay-affecting bonuses are a peace of crap. I will not be paying for that.

Well, the release date isn't until December 1, and they do say the system requirements will be coming 'soon' (whenever that is), so there's plenty of time to wait and see or pre-order if one wants and cancel it if no info is forthcoming.
