Darvond: Do you really think anyone is going to be willing to wait a whole year for a game like this?
Oi. I might. But.
avatar
misteryo: And?

If they want it now, they can play it on Epic. If they want it on Steam, they can wait. They are not forced. They can get a refund.
But they didn't pay to play it on Epic.
This is a new development that no one was anticipating. Refunds are all well and good, but they don't really negate the general disappointment.
No problem. I still very eagerly look forward to play it. One year later.

It is disappointing, as I've said several times now.

I am countering the fire-and-pitchfork calls to outrage. Be disappointed, take your refund. For those of us who have backed failed profects, a refund offered over the release platform being changed is refreshingly honorable behavior!
It would be nice if people would create such threads with... you know... a source... like this one maybe?

iregart: Why not just include EPIC on that list?
Because Epic gave them a bag full of money, that's why. Competition my fucking ass. Epic can go get fucked.

Yes you are right. That was a rethorical question out of my disappointment ;-).
They could've done it like Metro Exodus did at least. People that preordered that game on Steam still got to play it on Steam. It's something.
Well, at least if there's heavy snow we can grab all the salt from this thread.

It's a year exclusivity deal, announced months away from release (no none of that Metro silliness).

I don't recall seeing familiar statements of disdain when Thronebreaker was announced as an exclusive.

Just hold out and wait for a year, there's plenty of stuff to play, including xenonauts 2

If anything, it just highlights one flaw in crowdfunded games.

Darvond: The problem is, that after going to the most sketchy crowdfunding sites, (like Fig), it was decided at long last to do what most crowdfunding campaigns do, and screw over their backers in some major way.

In this case, it was accepting a deal from a metaphorical devil, as the inbound game is due to be an Epic Store exclusive for an entire 365, in return for undisclosed bags of money, Flintheart Glomgold style.
Good. Let's not pretend other devs haven't done the same thing with Valve.
Hahaha nothing can make me buy from Epic, go on acquire your exclusives one by one it doesn't matter because i will not use your unsecure garbage platform and certainly not give money to a guy like Tim Sweeney.

Whatever, another day and another game to avoid atleast for the time being.

misteryo: These decisions do not screw over the backers.
Yes they most certainly do, they create more trouble than it has to be for the buyer. These decisions are among the reasons as to why gamers stop backing developers.

It's also false advertisement at best, which is illegal most places.

EDIT: These greedy devs said the game would come on other platforms, made money based on that, and then pulled the plug.

That's a really mean and shitty decision. I think I'll ask for a refund.

It's one thing selling a first-party title through your own store, it's another barring third-party from selling anywhere else through these lengthy exclusivity deals. It's not competition, and it most certainly isn't better for consumers.
...and another shitty dev screwing their customers, good job!
This was going to be an instabuy, now I'll just skip it.

Which is pretty much why I don't have any confidence in crowdfunding anymore. "Hey, we promised we were going to do that thing we said we would do, but now we've changed our minds. Sucks to be you!"

Sure. Not a problem at all. It's very likely it would take me at least that long to get around to playing it, even if I bought it on day 1. I mean, it's not like I don't have games from 5+ years ago that I still haven't played. If I really really need to play something XCom-y in the next year, I'll play War of the Chosen. Or Xenonauts. Both of which I've had since forever but haven't touched yet.
