ConanTheBald: I usually dislike turn-based combat and I'm sceptical about pre-releases but this really intrigues me. Wishlisted for now, have to think about it bit more.

TomNuke: I'm normally with you on the pre-release skepticism, but I have full confidence and trust in Larian Studios from their previous Early Access games. They genuinely believe Early Access helps them make better games, and we help them by playing through it.

I can't say much about the turn-based criticism, since people like what they like, but if you think you can overlook that then really consider giving this a shot. They made some changes in this update in particular that should make the turned based combat, the dice rolling, and other things even more fun for people.

Baldur's Gate 3 is basically setting a new standard in CRPG's with it's story telling, role playing, immersion, and visual fidelity. There's a ton of content in Early Access to experience (limited to Act 1), and even more will be coming in future updates. I think it was the previous update the big addition was the Druid class for people to check out (which is super cool by the way).

Don't worry about getting burned or experiencing too much from playing Early Access either, because a lot of Act 1 is being withheld and or will be changed. They know there's people with literally hundreds and hundreds of hours on it.
I really like the fact that they actually engage with the community and take under consideration what people think about the game. Now suddenly buying a pre-released game is not about a threat that It might not be finished at all, but about buying a ticket to actively participate in game development yourself even as a customer.

I know some people have their preservations for "paying to become a beta tester". Only there is huge difference since no-one cares about the opinion of a beta-tester. As it seems, these people aren't simply loving their craft and creation, they are willing to go even beyond their own imagination. You don't see that very often.

I know game development isn't democracy and they probably shouldn't go overboard with this, but I'd like to support something like that. You know, being part of something awesome can sometimes be more important than to have finished game. Obviously ending up with finished game would be even better. But being able to say:"Hey, I was part of that!". That's already something.

I agree that they will finish the product. I am not sure it will be one that everyone likes though, I have brought every Karina game to date, and mostly enjoyed them, however there is something with the Divinity: Original Sin games I just don’t get on with (well, 2, can’t remember if I played the first). I know everyone raves on about it, but I just struggled with it, the almost cartoony approach, characters and dialog. Gave up after probably 10 hours in. It’s strange as I completed divinity 2 a couple of times. So whilst I don’t worry they can deliver, I worry they will deliver something which I don’t like. Mind you I wasn’t overly enthused by PoE 1 either, so maybe I am just out of touch with modern tastes.

Were you able to update it using the client? I was not.

nightcraw1er.488: Will, or might? Bannerlord has been going for what 15 years now, and still no end in sight.
But this is Larian we're talking about, they are no strangers to InDev/EA and I have the full confidence that they'll do a full release!

Breja: Well, after Dark Alliance turned out to be a piece of crap (going by most reviews I've seen) and that Magic the Gathering Diablo clone got cancelled before going out of beta, there might be some pressure for at least one game based on a Wizards of the Coast license to not utterly fail :D
Dark alliance was indeed shit from what I've been hearing/reading, and if any studio would bring D&D out of the brink, it's Larian!
avatar
BlondLion: This means you have never heard of Larian Studios. They have done EA release for DOS too, to really listen what the community thinks about their features, and DOS is one of, if not THE, best RPG of his kind.
So, there is NO doubt the game will reach a full release =)
What do you mean? :o

I have the entire catalog of Larian's games even beyond divinity, plus I never expressed any doubt that they would do a full release as they are one of the few developers that can be considered as the gold standard of CRPGs!

So we do agree on that point! :D

flagyl: Were you able to update it using the client? I was not.
Did you try doing what I suggested?

Also, consider just reinstalling the entire game, because the update was over 60 GB, so you're basically just installing a complete new version of the game.

.Ra: How come users who use installers have to wait?
The offline installer will be out soon. It might be a couple days though, so check back often. The new version is in the automated queue to be built and will be released when it's ready.

Please understand that there's a lot of games on GOG, and whenever a new product (game or DLC), or patch gets released then those offline installers need to be built. It's not an instant process. Everything is put into an automated queue, and it's ready when it's ready.

When a game is newly released the offline-installer is almost always ready to go because games are already in the system ready and waiting for the release date. Patches are a different story so there's a slight delay from when it's available on Galaxy and when the offline installer version is available.

Some people say Solasta is better than this game .

DD & Ji Ji: Some people say Solasta is better than this game .
I need to give Solasta a try. I have Game Pass, so it's just sitting there waiting for me to play it.

This game wasn't ready to be played with I played it last. And it's definitely got the feel and aesthetic of Divinity. But after playing a few releases, it has been changing and growing.

It won't be BG1 or 2. Which is okay. We have those already.

But it's shaping up to be a fun game, I hope. Time will tell. I have faith that it will continue to get better.

If you worry that the game development might take a turn in direction you don't like then you can express your concern to the developer because, unlike most, they actually might listen to you.
They need to add the protagonist's voice lines, in order to make those cinematics perfect. Right now it is so uncomfortable to watch at the mute character with only his facial expressions.

Ton and Արսեն, thank you.

Unbeknownst to me, I did have Patch 5 (when I saw version 4.1xxxx, I assumed that I was still on Patch 4. Sigh :) ).

That said, my PC typically crashes when I try to launch the game using the Larian launcher. Whether Vulcan or Direct X 11, it typically crashes my PC when I press 'Play'.

3900X, 32 GB RAM, GTX 3090. nVidia drivers are up to date. More than enough SSD space. Windows 10 is up to date.

I don't know what the issue is.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi, Sorry to hear about the issue. I've never personally had that happen before. What you can do is try to Verify / Repair the game installation, and perhaps that would help (see attached picture if you're not aware on how to do that).

Also, there was a large patch that released today (first since the big update), so make sure you have that. It would have started automatically, but if you haven't played today or recieved the update, then be sure to manually check for the update.

Let me know if that helps at all, but if you're contuining to have those problems you should contact Larian Studios, and they'll help you out.

Thank you so much Tom.

I just realized that you have the ability to launch games outside of Galaxy. I have downloaded the game through the browser and I am going to attempt to run it without using Galaxy.

After that, I'm out of ideas.

Thank you again for all your help. It is appreciated.
Should I have to download the update? That's typically how I see patches and updates applied. So far I have not been prompted to download a patch or fix and am wondering if I have the updated version.
