T.Hodd: Can we protest? Have they never seen a mobile game in their lives? Games with nice 2D graphics are now mobile games? Can we summon a blue to explain?

cemacar: Yet mobile games are on GoG like ,

Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition

they are far from being the "worse" mobilegaming inspired/similar titles and/or pc ports of actual mobile games already in GOG catalog, tbh

i can throw in many other titles that may be more questionable regarding their presence here due to shallow mechanics and presentation.

(also there are games that were pc first and later had a mobile port, which is different, like spacecom for example, and even then, spacecom is an ok game anyway, so...)

But seriously, GOG, what the hell are you thinking ? those guies are clearly making games from spacechem to shenzen I/O that are far from the kind of games that targets the widest mobile gaming audience. If some of their games ended up on mobile platforms it was because the ui allowed such port.

Those devs' games are all already on GOG catalog so far, except for their latest/ Whoever is in the curation department should at least 1) watch previous games record from a dev studio and 2) actually LAUNCH the game and try it for like what 10 min, instead of just looking at trailers and promo pics, before labelling games as "too much mobile gaming smell"

oh, and, btw... GWENT ! clearly NOT smelling like a mobile game as well...
A little help to ever "spot" or recognize a mobile game or not:

1) does the game have in-app purchases or micro transactions ?
2) does the game gatekeep content and play time behind waiting and frustration mechanics ?
3) is point 2 actively used to promote point 1 ?
4) is the game a clone or a rebranding of a well known game, gaming idea or concept ?
5) does the game have (over)simplistic (and/or oversized) UI that would perfectly fit a small touchscreen ?
6) does the game resolves on simple short play sessions of the time-length of you taking a pee or a poo ?

if the game answers "no" to each and EVERY point, chances are it is NOT a mobile game...
if the game answers "no" to each of points 1 to 5, chances are it is not a mobile game either...

if the game answers yes to at least half of those points, and especially points 1, 2 and 3, well, chances are this is a mobile game OR an EA game (doubt still exists here)

now ask yourself the question about Opus Magnum, just for a moment... and tell me...
i liked it's gameplay.
Eagerly waiting for it's arrival here
just for a little glimpse... it is by no mean claiming to be complete or exact, it is just based on me crossing my humble library (android section only...) with gog catalog. There may be other games mising, so feel free to let me know
Also, the point is not about if a game is computer or mobile by essence, and if it was released first in this platform or that platform. Point is "why the sudden stance about mobile gaming, from GOG curation, regarding Opus Magnum ? when it clearly never had been a issue before..."

https://www.gog.com/mix/mobile_gaming_on_gog?ccr=y

so, from what i saw in the discussion, we would also have "reigns" ? let me know about any game to add please
I was just going to say it cam out of EA 2 days ago...

So, it seems that the DRM-free version is now available on the Humble Store, I hope that it doesn't means it'll never be sold here :/

By the way, there is an article on PCGamer where they talk a bit about this decision from GOG.
I hope that GOG will come back on their decision :S

well, can the people in the GOG curation department could explain me why we have a game like 1849: gold edition here but Opus MAgnum was a "no no" for them ?

just for the sake of personal enlightment, i really need it to brighten my day :)

Ok: i had the 5 other zachtronics games here on GOG... guess i'll have to cope with Humble to get their latest game then... with all the problems i usually have to cope with when it comes to humble... Better humble than nothin, when it come to DRM-Free considerations

A sad laugh at "talk a bit". It's the only reason for the article. (And it's not like Zach is a vengeful asshole - most likely, a PC Gamer staffer saw the tweet and instantly went "whoa, a minor company but an epic blunder, this demands an article, stop the e-presses this instant".

Congrats GOG, developers will surely be encouraged to submit their games knowing you don't launch them even once. Also, I made this epic 100-hour action RPG that's totally not a unity roll-a-ball tutorial, wanna sell it?

1. Is the game created mainly for a mobile device?

If the answer is "YES" to the above question, chances are it is a mobile game.
I'm definitely interested in another Zachtronics gme, problem is, I haven't finished Spacechem yet :(
Looks too much like a mobile game!!!? This has to be a joke! Has GOG been hacked, because that's the only explanation for such a boneheaded response.
this is the kind of situation that makes it very difficult for a lot of us to ever try to advicate for DRM free gaming around ourselves without being laughed at, frankly...

with the two main stores/platform (but not the only ones) proposing such kind of product being GOG and Humble...

@ZFR there are rare games that were initially released for mobile but which have core mechanics that are suited evenly for computer gaming... and among them rare games, an even smaller proportion did actually get a decent PC port as well...
Strange decision by GoG. I do like they check games that want to sell here instead of steam floodgate system but there seems to be times when games have been rejected for bizarre reasons.

This is a game i would not play but still would like to see it here for others to buy.
well... this shows why I buy games less and less from gOg. It's not that I dislike the store (or have any particular strong feelings towards or against it at all), it's just that the games I want to play don't come here, and now I just don't wait and see anymore.

Dear GOG,

We only have a tweet from Zachtronics to go on, but if the fact, that you rejected their last game is true, then for the love of all that is holy, please, PLEASE reconsider. Zach makes one of the best puzzle games on the market. I love playing them and I hate puzzle games!

Moreover, you're already selling Spacechem and Infinifactory, which are very similar to Opus Magnum, so what's different this time?

I do appreciate that you take curating your store seriously. Honestly, I think that your selection of games is top-notch, with some stinkers here and there (like LSL:Magna Cum Laude), but assuming that the rumors of the game being rejected are true, then I feel that you've made a mistake here.

Zach is a respectable developer with a very unique take on puzzle games and I think you would be remiss not to include him on your store. Please reconsider.

Best wishes,
Onlooker
