mistermumbles: There was no such thing as an XInput controller in '97, silly.

snowkatt: you'd expect companies to spruce up the old games a bit when the re release them but eh effort
Square-Enix has been pretty tepid when it comes to the Core/Eidos era games in general.
I'd imagine it's often considered to complex or costly to spruce up some old games. Easier to just distribute them "as is" and call it the retro experience.

I can't imagine it would be overly difficult to add support for modern gamepads. Especially with things like SDL2 freely available.

Question :

Is it already enter playable state? I mean like Lara can run, do battle, and stunt?
I'm not expecting perfection, just basic functionality

I know about this project but rarely check it myself. And I have Tomb Raider 1-3 on Steam I'd like to give a try sometime in future.

The project is currently in a pre-alpha state. You can load levels from all the classic Tomb Raiders, along with their bonus levels. Lara herself is mostly functional, but NPCs and enemies still lack AI, and menus are not yet implemented. Though recently there has been progress in getting enemies following Lara, which is one of the basic components to enemy AI behavior.

Thanks. See youtube video. I'm impressed. Graphic is sharp and looking good, Lara movement is smooth. If they provided optional wasd+mouse control that would be awesome as control is basically the biggest barrier in playing older tomb raider games
If this project continues to grow, I may purchase the Tomb Raider games here on GOG to play them some day.

Thank you for pointing us to it, king_mosiah!

WASD+Mouse is already the default.
I'll try and give the games a try with the new engine. My only concern is the engine is labeled Alpha, so I wonder if there's any issues to worry about, or if it's just minor things (non-game breaking) they are fixing before it hits a full release.

Sweet. Then I guess I will wait until beta before giving it a try then :)

I see... Makes me hesitate using it then.

we are alpha testers basically
