SCPM: Alone in the Dark 2 seemed even shorter than the first game, I finished it for the first time in one day without any walkthrough.
Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defender can also be finished in one day, my playthrough time was about 95 minutes. Mind you, that was easy mode, and I only went for saving 100% of the miners, not for beating level high scores. It's a very enjoyable game though, I'm going to go back through normal mode, try to beat all the level scores, and see what else I missed.
Thanks, I'll add those two. I'm avoiding adding shmups, but Aqua Kitty seems a bit more complex than that, so should qualify.

Sachys: Any game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series can be completed in about 6-10 hours on normal if you're familiar with FPS, horror and survival type gameplay (so not for everyone).
Aye, it's down to how much of a veteran you are, and how much secondary exploring you are willing to bypass. My sessions with the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. took days and I still didn't beat it. Mind you, that was with damn crazed respawning, which may have gotten adjusted down the line.

Yeah, think the 4th patch sorted that, but most people are reccomended to play with complete mod (or similar) first time to stop that for sure, kill the game breaking bugs and remove the forced/ timed side missions. it took me about ten hours first playthrough (without that) so with (as a bit of a must) should take less - same with all the games really.

Glad to hear they addressed the problems, would like to try the game again one day in proper form. Still longer than I would comfortably call a one-day game, since I'm pegging those in the 2-5 hour range. No doubt many games can be marathoned in a day, but I'm singling out ones that easily lend themselves to a single session, as opposed to being brutal endurance slogs. As many times as I've played System Shock 2, I expect I could do it front-to-back in under 24 hours. But I'd be a sorry mess at the end of it, rather than having enjoyed myself.

Actually (avoiding sidequests) Shadow of Chernobyl is quite perfect in about 7 hours - including a few reloads. bit like a Tarkovsky in that sense! heheh!
Penumbra series(about 5-6 hours per entry)
All three FEARs take about 7 hours at most.
It takes about 3 hours to 100% Eversion. Small, but excellent game. <3

Mr.Caine: Penumbra series(about 5-6 hours per entry)
First game is kicking my ass in that regard. Still haven't finished it over about three evenings play. There is of course the chance that I am simply naff at it. :)

I just now finished Escape Goat in just under 3 hours, including many, many deaths. A perfect example of the kind of game I'm cataloging. I encountered everything the game wanted to show me, at no times did I feel rushed, and it was an altogether complete experience.

MaximumBunny: It takes about 3 hours to 100% . Small, but excellent game. <3
Cool, thanks! Looks like they have [url=http://zarat.us/tra/eversion/]a free version that is largely complete but missing some of the nice extras. May give that a play, sounds like a good fit for the list. Cheers!

Posts have indicated that new GOG release The Shivah belongs on this list, clocking in comfortable under the maximum while still being a very worthwhile experience.
Capsized might fit your list, too. It has twelve levels which take about half an hour to beat on average (with earlier levels being shorter and the very last levels maybe a bit longer, with the possibility that you fail and need to repeat it once or twice).

Yes, it comes pretty close, but I found it a frustrating game that took longer. I uninstalled it before beating it after replaying one level for about the twentieth time. A shame, as it was rather good up to that point. But that level became an exercise in having to get everything just right (or rather not having any one battle inflict too much damage). I would do well in one fight but have a bad break in another, and with several fights like that on the level it was only a matter of statistical averages that I would fail yet again.

But I don't doubt some folks could finish it in a day. And perhaps even enjoy doing so.
F.E.A.R. 2 took me about five hours, I think. F.3.A.R. about three and a half. Unfortunately, they are both all manners of shit, definitely among the 10 worst games of all time. The first F.E.A.R. is better and a bit longer, but can easily be finished in one decent sit-down.

5 Days a Stranger was pretty short, although it does come with a bit of adventure game bullshit that may or may not leave you stranded for X period of time.

EDIT: Slight cock-up. Additionally, 7 Days a Skeptic is short and good.

Thanks, I've only played the first F.E.A.R. title (on Xbox) and it did take a few afternoons to get through. I hesitate to add the others to the list if they are indeed that dire. I prefer to keep it to one-day games that you would want to play. :)

I'll check out 6 Days a Stranger, thanks for the tip!

Glad you like it! It's nice to know that this is a useful resource for folks, especially those of us with limited free time for gaming.
There's still a couple of Wadjet Eye games you don't have - Da New Guys I'm pretty sure is short, Emerald City Confidential I'm not so sure about
I would have thought Insecticide too as its meant to be the first part of an episodic series that got cancelled
Half Life: Blue Shift definatly, maybe Opposing Force too?
