Hello everyone, for the some time i have discovered there are, a lot of new games and indie titles, i dont mind , why not ? Then again there are so many older games, that are missing, when there was any seroisus update to the old titles (dos and early windows era)? The wishlists on site are so big and there is nothing only new games and inide :/ , maybe we could convince GOG to return to old formula of selling only old games. I dont mind some newer games or inidie but main updates should be the older ones, newer should be only addon. Do you think similiar as i do ?

because fo each and every game on the wish list
gog has to sit down with all the liscence owners of the game
and hammer out a deal

and in some cases thats nigh on impossible
either the studio's are gone the liscense holders have gone to ground or just dont want to play ball

its not as easy as saying hey gog gimme these games i wanna !
they have to go after each title and break their backs working to get the titles in the store

the market is changing and more recent games and indies keep gog afloat which means more older games

everybody wins !
*sigh* Is it Thursday already...?

yeah it is
i should start writing that awnser of mine down
i seem to repeat it every week
Yeah, getting older games is difficult. And probably not always very profitable if people start complaining when a very old title (which probably asked for a serious bit of compatibility work on top of the "rights and negociation" lawyer stuff) is sold for more than 3$.

But oldies are still added, so it's good. There were some SERIOUS old games arrivals in the past few month :)
lets take discworld as an example

discworld noir was developed by perfect entertainment which turned in to teeny weeny games in 2000 and then went bankrupt in 2002
the publisher was gt interactive which ceased to be in 2000 as it got taken over by infograms who renamed itself in to atari in 2003 and who is as of 2013 bankrupt

so who owns the rights to discworld noir then and who needs to be approached ?

lets not forget that the estate of terry pratchett also has a say in this

and thats just one game

No more old games? Impossible unless you stop time. See it that way: in 10-15 year gog would already had listed the old game pillars of eternity 10-15 years ago ;)
Games from the 2000s aren't old these days?
GOG recently released . That game had been on the [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/outlaws]wishlist for at least 3 years with over 2,700 votes. Some older, classic games just take time for GOG to acquire because of licensing issues.

Who knows? Maybe someday the No One Lives Forever series could make it to GOG...

If we are comparing wishlists, I'd love to see Urban Assault show up on GOG. It was an incredibly rare RTS that was way ahead of its time. But a deal with Microsoft would have to be made first.

no not really
but system shocks rights are such a god damn mess that if gog can untangle that
they can untangle no one lives forever too

There's only 1 way to convince them of anything - money. New games are bringing them that with less time and effort than it takes to sign licenses for older titles. Do you have a solution for this?

I remember SS2's rights were a mess as well, but GOG was finally able to get that game so there is hope. But I also hope GOG could get rarer games. 'Games like Take No Prisoners!

according to the game's wiki article even as recent as last year ( 2014 for the people from the future )
the three companies with a stake in the game activision fox and WB were still resistant to the idea of a remake
which doesnt bode well for no one lives forever

personally i would like to see discworld here and vampire bloodlines
