As the title says the NHL season gets underway today.

It is my favorite sport, is anybody else a hockey fan?

My breakout player is Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres.

I am not sure why people seem to be down on him and I can't find anybody listing him all that high up. The Hockey News has him at 25 in their top 50 ranking (they put Auston Mathews at No. 8). Eichel finished last season averaging nearly a point-per-game, he finished 11th overall in PPG last season, and that includes having to come back from an injury. I predict Eichel finishes in the Top-10 in scoring this season (provided he stays healthy, but that is true for every player).

Your thoughts or predictions?
Go Sharks! :P

Eichel better finish top 10. Buffalo's paying him like he's a top 10 player!

As a Jet's fan .. I'm hoping we can make the playoffs. Hell, let's make the playoffs, and actually win a playoff game! Really, it all comes down to whether Steve Mason can stop some pucks. If the Jet's could have had some reasonable goal-tending last year, they were a playoff team. I'm not sure that Mason's the man here, but I would love to be proven wrong.

My wife is a big Flames fan, so she's pretty excited to see the Jagr-Mullet in a flaming-C jersey.

Canada still has NHL teams? :D

Barely. The American teams keep poaching our best players.

Edit: I have no idea where your Inn is, but in my minds eye, I always picture rural Connecticut or Vermont - kind of like the Newhart show. My initial response was to comment about how many teams Hartford has, but then I realized, I have no idea if you are anywhere near Hartford.

Hey, the Leafs snagged that big shot from San Jose.

I have some folks from Toronto staying here now. They told me if it weren't the goaltender The Cup would be as good as theirs this season.

I agree.
Nation Hickey League? WOO-HOO!

One of the places I work on occasion, the manager is a die hard Penguin fan. I came in early one day and reset all of their desktop wallpapers (Gotta love people who write their password on sticky notes and stick them on their monitors) to Danny DeVito's version of the Penguin.

Of course then I had to teach every one how to replace it.

One of my moms commented a few days ago that it;s expected to be a rather lame year as theirs no standout teams. I found this while looking something up:

that's interesting.

I don't know if I should agree or disagree.
I need to think about this.
I'm excited for this season. As for if the league has no great teams, well in the salary cap situation you can't build teams like the Canadiens, Islanders and Oilers from back in the day, but the Pens have Crosby, Letang, Malkin and Kessel. The Leafs have the triplets - Auston Matthews, Mitchel Marner and William Nylander.

I think the Maple Leafs are the most fun and infuriating team to watch at the moment. Top five in goals scored and goals scored in 5-v-5, but also top 10 in goals allowed last season. Awful in 1-goal games and were 1-8 in the shootout (may it die) last season. They also went 2-4 against the Capitals in their playoff series in which all six games were decided by one goal and five went to OT - best playoff series last year.

I think this season will have a half dozen really good teams.
Let's go Pens. Threepeat coming baby!

Us too. We've been on the ice since September 12 (I coach).

Evaluations and team selection are this weekend.
The first Pro Hockey team was in the Keweenaw, a few miles down the road from where I am now.

There is your stupid factoid for the day. :P

Been a Penguins fan since I was 14, with Lemiuex, Francis, Robitaille, Jagr, Barrasso, Sameulsson, etc. Loved watching those teams play.
