jjsimp: The Prison map is ginormous.

Granted I only play for about 30-45 minutes a night, occasionally redoing a part, but I have been on that map for the last three days. I may be finally near the actual prison, someone squawks over the intercom to "come just a bit closer" and I see one of those wonderful turrets. Took back the Farm, A few caves, and a few small camps.

If only there were a few more 7.62mm and 30-06 bullets around. I've resorted to reissuing my guys their original weapons because I am just so low on that ammo. Have a crapload of the shotgun shells and Energy Cells. I don't mind using the shotguns, but I really hate the Energy Weapons.
Energy Weapons aren't really implemented into the Beta as yet, you're restricted to using the tier 1 energy weapons and hence their crappy damage while rifles get tier 3 guns.
Don't bother with the turrets since there's nothing beyond them. Apart from the Prison borders they added a few minor maps related to the AG centre serum quests. Nothing too mysterious or intriguing about them, ,just a few maps to kill mobs in, loot and pour the serum.

I don't know about my opinions of WL2 now but after playing Dragonfall expansion for Shadowrun Returns which hooked me straight in from start to finish, I really hope WL2's story and sidequests pick up along the way. I mean AG Centre was great but the rest of the major locales feel quite plain. I can't judge for the Prison since I can't actually go in yet but here's hoping it turns out great.
The Prison map isn't actually fully implemented in the beta, it's only the surrounding valley areas, according to some people on the forums you CAN kill those two turrets guarding the prison entrance, but only by abusing some exploits in the game, but either way it doesn't matter as you can't enter the prison, it's not in the beta. Will probably be in the next update (hopefully), and they'll also probably put it ways to sneak into the Prison without taking on those near-impossible turrets.

Yeah I mentioned that in a post earlier up hehe.

My opinion of the game is a little on the amazed side, because this is probably one of the newest games I've played in a longtime and I just built a brand new rig with a DX11 video card. Just seeing the plant life, shadows, and water effects to me have opened my eyes to the new things possible in games, while most people used to current gen games will see the effects as standard fare.
Attached is a screenshot from a cave on the prison map, I just loved how the shadows moved around in that shot. The screenshot probably doesn't do it justice.

Turn down the brightness/saturation a bit man, it'll look better.
Looks like the Robot/Train Depot is not really complete. A lot of missing sounds and other stuff. Back to the other part of the map for me it looks like...

WL2's graphics are fine, they're not as bad as what some people put them, neither are they spectacular. Of the better known Kickstarter RPG projects, imo, Divinity Original Sin has the better looking graphics so far, Shadowrun Returns has the most atmospheric graphics. Haven't seen enough of games like PE to judge.

I think Robots! is just an Easter egg type location for beta players

When you leave the prison you get a radio message to investigate the robot invasion. So, I don't think it is an easter egg. My party was just to low of a level for that map.

You're supposed to go back to the first radio tower you went to at the start of the game. There's a robot invasion there with the butt easy Slicer Dicer boss.

Ah, yeah I missed were he said to go for the robot invasion, and then while traveling on the map I saw the robots/train depot map and thought that must be it. I was going to rerun the getting out of the prison map and see what he said. It's not listed in your log where to go (at least I didn't see it).

From their developer blog, another big update coming soon

"The next update to the Wasteland 2 beta will be another sizeable ones. We are adding more content in the form of the missile silo map, an interesting location that is set to challenge your problem-solving skills. Here is a short description from Jeremy Kopman, the level designer on Silo. “Slashed across eastern Arizona is a deep, winding canyon that provides the only access to a vast, resource-rich valley. As if traversing the labyrinthine paths – full of vicious animals and sociopathic raiders – wasn’t hard enough, the area is controlled by a fanatical branch of the Servants of the Mushroom Cloud. These monks worship Titan, bringer of death by the Great Glow… and a live ICBM with a nuclear warhead. Too bad braving this deathtrap is your only way to reach your next mission target: Damonta.”

Along with the new area, we’ll be releasing new AI types (big booms coming) and behaviors for more challenging combat, replacing the previous merchant screen with a brand-new one – designed in part based on community feedback – and add a new logbook interface. It will also include a reworking of the Leadership skill which will make its effects much more noticeable. And of course, the update will come with a large list of bug fixes and additional polish.

On a side note, we’ve received the first Mike Stackpole / Nathan Long novella and are in the process of reviewing it. Great news for those who have been patiently waiting for its release!"

Either I missed the email or they didn't send one. But I do not see it posted in the forum anywhere. It was on their developer blog, their forum, and tumblr (whatever the hell that is).

Edit: Why doesn't the italics work in the forum. I wanted to put that quote in italics, but it just showed on screen.

This reminds me of a user review I saw on Gamestop recently, for the Diablo 3 expansion. The guy complains about how the full release is going to be terrible, there's not enough content and it won't be fun. He came to this conclusion based on the SIXTY HOURS he had played the beta. I'd hate to see how much time he'd spend on a GOOD game ;)
